Who you are
- The successful candidate is organized, curious, and energized by the prospect of turning complex satellite data into compelling narratives
- Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to write clear, engaging prose
- Familiarity with social platforms and an interest in how brands use them to reach professional audiences
- An ability to learn complex technical concepts and help translate them for a general audience
- A "no task too small" attitude and a desire to work across different time zones and teams
Desirable
- Strong writing skills and well-versed in the media landscape
- Experience in using a suite of AI tools and nimble to apply AI skills to streamline communications efforts
- An interest in technology, aerospace, and world events
What the job involves
- Planet’s Summer 2026 internships are full-time, paid 12-week positions located in our San Francisco HQ Office

- Planet is seeking a dynamic, self-starting Communications Intern to join our team for the Summer 2026 term
- This is an ideal opportunity for a student or recent graduate eager to dive into the world of Earth observation technology and global storytelling
- As an intern, you won't just be watching from the sidelines; you’ll be an active participant in high-stakes moments, including upcoming launches and high-visibility executive speaking opportunities
- You will support the team in monitoring the media landscape, drafting content for our owned channels, and helping us maintain the operational "engine" of the communications department
- This role reports to the Communications Manager (US - remote)
- Own the daily tracking of media coverage and industry news. You’ll be the first to spot a Planet mention and will take the lead on drafting our weekly communications recap
- Serve as a core team member for upcoming rocket launches. You will help develop the press release, blog content, and social media assets
- Support announcements and media interviews by drafting press releases, blog posts, media backgrounders and briefing docs
- Scrub and update our master media lists, identifying new journalists and influencers who should be following the Planet story
- Support the Media Think Tank Program (MTTP) by identifying striking Planet imagery to be used across social media and earned media pitches

Our take
Planet’s high resolution, high frequency Earth-imaging satellites make daily changes in the earth more visible, allowing the company to provide quick turnaround geo-spatial data to its customers. The company was founded by a group of former NASA employees driven by a desire to make global change more actionable by rendering it more visible.
Planet operates the largest Earth-imaging satellite network available, putting it ahead of any competitors. Its landmass data is easy to access, requiring only a subscription from its members - who range from ecological organizations, to private companies and government bodies. The company is also supporting SES and Telesat on their space relay projects for NASA.
The current focus of Planet seems to be on employing its network towards climate and environmental issues. A partnership with Accenture comes with the goal of developing AI-powered geospatial intelligence tools to support sustainability projects; and the company's acquisition of Salo Sciences will allow it to develop offerings around enabling customers to quantify carbon stocks, monitor forest change, and mitigate climate risks.
