- Ability to comprehend and apply complex concepts regarding equity market structure to your day-to-day is expected
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete requests promptly
- You possess a well-rounded skill set that will allow you to complete both technical and qualitative projects assigned by the team
What the job involves
- IEX is looking for a highly driven candidate to work on the Chief of Staff’s team in the Summer of 2025
- We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who is excited to learn about equity market structure and electronic trading
- This is a cross-functional opportunity where you will leverage your technical, teamwork, and communication skills to improve operational efficiency and create materials for key stakeholders and executive leadership
- The Business Strategy Intern will report to the Chief of Staff’s team, with daily exposure to the Business Operations, Business Analytics, Product, and Executive teams
- Interns will spend time developing an understanding of equity market structure dynamics and how an exchange operates while supporting the above teams through the completion of Strategic Projects that require the use of PowerPoint, Excel, and various other tools
- Become a subject matter expert on the mechanics of electronic trading, U.S. equity market structure, data analysis, and apply those concepts when working with clients, internal teams, and improving our future products
- Develop expertise on IEX technology, systems, trading functionality, order types, and market data
- Shadow and assist members of various Exchange teams such as Business Operations, Business Development, Business Analytics, Product, and Market Policy
- Work closely with the team on prepping materials for client and investor presentations, identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies, and ad-hoc research-based projects
- Prepare materials for and engage with IEX Executive Leadership
- Participate in IEX’s organization-wide internship program which includes networking events, group intern projects, and frequent opportunities to learn from company leadership

Innovations in fintech infrastructure have dramatically changed how people invest, but despite such developments, investors still face limitations when trading assets. Exchanges often list out-of-date pricing information which limits investors' abilities to make strategic investment decisions, a problem that is heightened through knock-on effects from other unstable stock prices.
IEX provides a registered US stock exchange for investors and broker-dealers, focussing on providing a more stable trade execution experience than existing exchanges. The company achieves this through its "Speed Bump" strategy that delays trades to gather up-to-date pricing information whilst assessing them for price stability, ensuring that trades are not executed based on stale data, and helping to notify other orders to react to other stock price stability levels.
Whilst the company must share the stock exchange sector with many competitors, IEX show great promise through its focus on maintaining pricing accuracy and stability. The company also stands out by providing a cloud platform for the selling, sharing, and use of financial data, in addition to an investment lifecycle advice tool for institutional investors.
