Role
Who you are
- Are you a senior and talented product engineer who is versatile enough to take on a role working with AI at a rapidly growing venture-backed startup?
- We are looking for someone extremely motivated, who is driven by tech for good, and who wants to do the best work of their career
- Experienced working in early-stage teams (pre-Series B)
- Recent & extensive experience working with React Native
- Experience developing web apps, ideally with React Native for Web
- Demonstrated expertise in driving the development of a broad codebase - e.g. maintaining a design system, test suites, backend interfaces, and other varying packages
- Solid proficiency with TypeScript, or other strongly typed language
- Solid understanding of system design
- Experience with mentoring, teaching and disseminating best practices to the wider team
- Comfortable and happy to contribute on the backend
- Have worked in cross-functional product teams
- Keen to coach other members of the team
- Flexible in the way you work and are a quick learner
- Keen to contribute across the whole development process
- Compassionate, empathetic, understanding, or interested in mental health
- Always up-to-date with the latest tools and trends
What the job involves
- You’ll work closely with the founders, report to our Technical Engineering Manager Clem, and be one of the go to React Native engineers on the team. There are six engineers on the team currently
- Four specializing in frontend and RN and two backend specializing in Go
- We want you to have a big impact in shaping the technical direction of the product and help inform company-level strategy and decision-making
- As we are an early-stage start-up, there is room for you to have a huge impact on the future of the company and a large amount of autonomy to shape your role and get stuck in. You should be comfortable adapting your role and responsibilities as the company grows
- Being an impactful individual contributor writing code and driving technical performance
- Leading engineering projects that drive company strategy and results
- Planning and breaking down work to understand and communicate complexity which allows company-wide prioritization
- Handling the “plumbing” - acting as a backstop to solve obscure and hard-to-debug things that might be blocking the rest of the team
- Keeping the development cycle smooth & speedy - filling in the gaps, taking on the sometimes-unenviable tasks like keeping CI functioning, managing big dependencies, doing things that will best enable the other engineers
- Write up high-standard engineering documentation to set up long-term practices
- Collaborating with both the design and backend teams to create visually appealing interfaces that work to a high standard with fast-moving timescales
- Making our React Native apps “feel right” across iOS, Android, and web - with both parity and appropriate variation between each
- Shape and contribute to the best engineering culture
- Build strong and trusting relationships across the product team and org structure
Application process

- A screening call with our co-founder and COO, [Xander](https://www.linkedin.com/in/xander-gilbert-a7242b170/). We will spend some time together checking that Mojo and you could be a good fit and walk through your professional history. Some candidates have even described this as cathartic! We will aim to get through this in 30 minutes, although sometimes (depending on your experience) it can take as long as 60 or even 90 minutes, so please book a time slot that suits this!
- We want to hear how your past successes and failures have shaped you professionally. So you can prep by thinking about your best learnings and how they’ve made you the person you are today
- 💻 Short Remote Task
- A max 2-hour take home task which will be reviewed by Clem (Head of Engineering) and another engineer on the team. We give candidates 72hrs to send it back to us. Doing a task takes time and we appreciate that. To show our gratitude we donate £100 to a charity of your choosing, as a thank you for your efforts in the task
- 🍐 Remote pairing task
- A 60 minute pairing session with Mehdi and Clem that will cover a mix of frontend development and backend
- 💬 Competencies In Person Interview
- A 3 hour in person assessment (if possible) where you will meet some of our engineering and product team to discuss some of the key competencies needed for the role. It will be a great morning or afternoon in which you will meet most of the engineering team. The competencies will cover system design, general technical questions and working with product teams
- ☎️ References (phone call)
- Before making an offer, we would like to speak to some of your colleagues, past and present, with your permission of course. We usually like to speak to a variety across different roles and a range of managers, team members and direct reports (if you have them)
- We find these calls are helpful in getting confidence that you will be a fit and identifying ways in which we can best to support you in your new role
