Role
Who you are
- This is a back-end focused team, and the ideal candidate will have experience working with distributed systems at scale
- BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems, or other related engineering field
- 3+ years of industry experience on backend software development & distributed systems, designing & building software applications
- Experience with our stack: Python and/or Go
- Experience working with distributed teams, proficient in asynchronous and written communication
- Experience building features & components from scratch and operating them, balancing feature development work with operational tasks
- Open to following pre-established guidelines, coding practices, and conventions
- You’re growth-driven & looking to increase impact & responsibility over time
Desirable
- Experience with our stack: AWS, K8, Django, Spark, Prometheus
- Familiarity with AWS services and deployment practices
- Knowledge of containerization using Docker or similar technologies
What the job involves
- Abnormal AI is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Inbound Email Products - Systems (IEPS) team
- The MSP IEPS team is responsible for Abnormal’s core Inbound Email Security product backend systems, including Remediation and Threat Log (data processing and storage)
- Our objective is to make Abnormal the top detection engine by enhancing stability and scalability, as well as expanding our product's impact on customers by serving a broader range of customer types
- The IEPS team develops and manages essential components of Abnormal’s flagship Email Security product, such as Remediation Flows and Customer Portal Dashboards
- Design and execute software projects critical to Abnormal’s success in collaboration with a team of engineers, encompassing conception, design, implementation, launch, and operation
- Provide guidance and mentorship for junior members of the team
- Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and Go-To-Market teams to implement, verify, and iterate on the issues & requests coming from our customers
- Raise the bar of excellence in engineering, actively contributing to knowledge sharing within the tea,m and participating in professional development activities

Fraud involving impersonation is one of the top causes of online financial crime. Criminal tactics like email account spoofing, where the criminal impersonates an official account to steal personal information or money, are rife. Abnormal Security is a startup aimed at handling these hyper-targeted and personalized email attacks by analyzing communications and identifying potential fraud before it can take place.
The fraud detection space is extremely competitive but Abnormal Security differentiates itself through its focus on the threat of impersonation rather than a spectrum of threats. This has allowed it to amass a wealth of data relating specifically to high-risk impersonation attacks, analyzing over 45,000 signals to detect any anomalies.

Now, Abnormal plans to double down on product development and expand internationally, prioritizing markets where data security laws necessitate a local presence. By staying focused on impersonation, Abnormal Security positions itself as a formidable force in the fight against online financial crime.
