Accounting Manager, Fieldguide

• This is a good fit for someone who has worked in a startup environment, can independently work through unfamiliar problems, and is excited about using modern systems and AI to improve how accounting work gets done
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience at a high-growth startup or SaaS company
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing a monthly close
• Experience with revenue recognition and other accounting issues common to subscription software businesses
• A track record of independently researching problems, developing a point of view, and driving issues to resolution
• Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to identify when a process, transaction, or result does not make sense
• Comfort operating in an environment where processes may still need to be created or improved
• Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work and curiosity about how they can improve accounting operations
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams

Desirable

• Fieldguide is looking for an Accounting Manager to help run and scale our accounting function as the company grows. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this person will be a hands-on owner of the monthly close and several core accounting areas, while helping us build more efficient, automated, and scalable processes
• Own significant areas of the monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and financial reporting
• Manage accounting for key areas such as revenue, accounts receivable, payroll, commissions, operating expenses, prepaids, and fixed assets
• Review contracts and business activities to identify and resolve accounting implications
• Own and continuously improve accounting workflows in Rillet and other tools within our finance technology stack
• Build processes and controls that improve accuracy without creating unnecessary complexity
• Use AI and automation to reduce manual work and improve the speed and quality of the close
• Partner with Strategic Finance and teams across the company to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and issues are addressed early
• Support the annual audit, tax filings, and other compliance requirements
• Take ownership of new accounting projects as the company and our products continue to evolve
