Role
Who you are
- 5+ years experience across Strategic Finance, Investment Banking, Consulting or similar with prior experiences working closely with executive leaders
- Understanding of SaaS revenue drivers and metrics, PLG business models a plus
- Highly collaborative and proactive in building effective relationships with business and cross-functional partners
- Able to prioritize and balance multiple projects
- Passion for digging into the details and moving quickly in a rapidly changing business environment
- Natural curiosity to think critically, to ask questions, and to evolve our business
- Team-oriented mindset and a positive attitude
- Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Advanced analytical skill including Excel, SQL and Looker
- Prior experience with Salesforce, ERP systems (NetSuite) and FP&A Platforms is a must
- Understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
What the job involves
- Drive the FP&A process for the Product Business Units including headcount and operating expense management, monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts, scenario modeling and regular business reviews
- Challenge assumptions and present novel and well-reasoned strategic recommendations to optimize business performance
- Support the development of unit economic frameworks to evaluate the ROI of various products, features, and business strategies to guide Docker’s decision-making
- Build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams across our Product Business Units, broader product development and GTM organization to strategically advise on financial impact and improve business performance
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop and evolve scalable processes to analyze and improve business performance of Docker’s products and develop financial models to track and improve KPIs
- Evaluate TAM, revenue, and profit opportunities for new products and features
- Leverage analytics tools to advise and inform the Finance team and executive leadership on business unit and product performance
- Work closely with the Data and Analytics teams to operationalize financial and operational metrics dashboards that report key insights
Our take
Docker supplies a hub and desktop solution to simplify the workflow of app development teams. Originally known for popularising the idea of containerising software, it saw itself outpaced by Kubernetes. However, the company has identified a problem with the growing complexity of containerisation, with some apps consisting of dozens or even hundreds of containers - which is what it now addresses.
Docker has had a difficult time in the recent past, with 2019 seeing it sell off its enterprise business, reduce its workforce by hundreds, and change its leadership team. As a well known brand and ecosystem for containerisation, however, it aims to lure developers back to its product as well as to take advantage of the growing global demand for app development.
Returning to focus on developers rather than large companies was certainly a gamble, but one that seems to have paid off. The company has returned to profitability and raised Series C funding in 2022, which is cited to fund hiring new talent, ramping up its business, and continuing to develop and refine its product. It's also embarked on a series of acquisitions to bolster its business, with speculation mounting about its possible sale in the near future.
