Role
Who you are
- A degree in Computer Science or related field with a focus on machine learning; PhD preferred
- At least two years of relevant experience, preferably in the analysis of images
- Artificial intelligence software development experience using Python, additional knowledge of C++ desirable
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (like Keras or PyTorch) and libraries
- Ability to design and develop robust scalable solutions, experience with cloud-based solutions desirable
- Deep knowledge of maths, probability, statistics, and algorithms
- Ability to research and develop solutions independently
- Experience with GLP regulations or software will be ‘a distinct advantage’
- Must be focused with a sense of urgency and immediate impact, capable of working in an agile environment
- Possess sound communication skills to address issues quickly & comprehensively with internal & external parties
- Must be self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take ownership
- Must be effective at time management and personal organization / planning
- Ability to present complex information in a clear and precise manner with a non-technical audience internally and externally
What the job involves
- Perform research and development of machine learning algorithms to expand product capabilities
- Design, develop and maintain the machine learning infrastructure
- Integrate machine learning into software solutions focused on functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability
- Run machine learning tests and experiments, select appropriate datasets and data representation methods
- Verifying data quality, and/or ensuring it via data cleaning
- Defining validation strategies/Defining the preprocessing or feature engineering to be done on a given dataset/defining data augmentation pipelines
- Work with partners and clients to develop and validate classifiers for specific use cases
- Perform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results, train and retrain systems when necessary
- Presentation of results and progress at weekly meetings
- Extend existing ML libraries and frameworks and keep up to date with developments in the field
- Collaborate with the Deciphex team to Improve existing products
- Support our R&D & test teams to ensure the quality of our solutions
- Assist product managers and business stakeholders understand the potential and limitations of AI when planning new products
- Complete all mandatory company training and job specific training required for the role, including ISMS, GLP, DocuSign, SDLC as applicable
- Other tasks as may be assigned by management
Our take
Pathologists are the core of diagnostics, but face increasing pressure as diagnostic complexity increases and the number of pathologists is in decline. This systemic strain means turnaround times for diagnoses are longer, and the chance of diagnostic error is higher. Deciphex is looking to address this with a regulated non-clinical pathology platform.
Deciphex has institutional and headline support, has collaborated with AstraZeneca and Janssen, and participates in a research program with pharmaceutical company Charles River. Reports suggest the platform has seen impressive uptake in the preclinical sector, so in spite of being relatively young, this specialist niche is in high demand.
This all means Deciphex is in a strong position to keep expanding its suite of tools and platforms. Its 2025 round of funding will support expansion across the US, UK, EU, Canada, and Japan. The company is also looking to enhance its capabilities, strengthen existing partnerships and broaden the type of customer it serves.
