Who you are
- Experience: 15+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, private and public companies, with progressive complexity in scope and responsibilities
- Education: CPA or CA designation required
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, including ASC 740, SOX, and international tax principles
- IPO Readiness: Experience in IPO readiness processes and involvement in IPO-related activities
- International Tax: Experience working with international accounting teams and handling intercompany transactions
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead material initiatives, inspire others, and drive results
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain complex topics clearly

What the job involves
- As the Senior Director of Tax, you will play a pivotal role in leading all aspects of the company's tax function, ensuring compliance, optimizing tax positions, and driving strategic tax planning
- You will be instrumental in preparing the company for its next stage of growth and maturity, overseeing a range of tax-related activities, including federal, state, and international income tax filings, tax provisions, annual audits, sales tax reporting, and strategic tax planning
- Company Maturity: Lead and coordinate all tax-related activities required for Fivetrans next stage of growth and maturity, ensuring compliance with SEC regulations and best practices
- Tax Compliance: Oversee the timely and accurate filing of federal, state, and international income tax returns, including quarterly estimates and extensions
- Tax Provision: Prepare the quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX requirements
- Tax Audits: Manage tax audits conducted by federal, state, and international tax authorities
- Sales Tax: Oversee sales tax compliance, including registration, reporting, and remittance
- Strategic Tax Planning: Identify and implement tax-saving strategies to optimize the company's tax position
- SOX Compliance: Implement and maintain compliance of SOX controls related to the tax function
- International Tax: Handle intercompany transactions between different countries, particularly in a SaaS environment
- Leadership: Act as a critical leader within the Finance organization
- Technology Adoption: Embrace and leverage technology to streamline tax processes and improve efficiency

After a few slower years since graduating from Y Combinator in 2013, Fivetran has skyrocketed, consistently raising large sums of funding, including an Andreessen Horowitz-backed $565m Series D round in 2021.
Customers are mostly data analysts at companies with inefficient database schema, who suffer from a high risk of project failures. Fivetran offers rapid integration of complex data services into cloud warehouses, tagging onto the trend towards cloud-based data systems.
By developing and continuously improving cloud applications that adapt to changing APIs and data schemas, Fivetran is attracting customers who seek long-term data viability. Fivetran also benefits from being easy to set up and integrate into a client's existing software.
After acquiring HVR, a data integration competitor, and Teleport Data, Fivetran continues to add functionality and customers via acquisition. A round of funding in 2023 paved the way for expansion into European and Asian markets.
