Role
Who you are
- Good understanding of Terraform for infrastructure as code, enabling consistent provisioning and management of AWS environments, and supporting repository deployments from GitHub
- Practical working knowledge of AWS, with the ability to perform basic DevOps functions such as deployment, configuration, and environment management
Desirable
- Demonstrates an understanding of Laravel and PHP, with the capability to support frontend development tasks when required
What the job involves
- The role involves supporting the development, deployment, and maintenance of our cloud-based applications and infrastructure. You will use Terraform to manage infrastructure as code, ensuring AWS environments are consistently provisioned, maintained, and scalable
- Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for deploying and configuring applications within AWS, managing environments, and supporting CI/CD workflows from GitHub repositories. This includes handling core DevOps tasks such as monitoring deployments, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining reliable infrastructure
- You will work closely with the development team to support application delivery, with opportunities to contribute to backend development using Laravel and PHP, as well as assist with frontend tasks to further develop and expand your knowledge of these frameworks.
- Overall, the role focuses on keeping our systems running smoothly, improving deployment processes, and supporting the ongoing development of our platform
Application process
- Stage 1: Initial interview (30–45 mins):
- You will be invited to a video call with our COO and Head of Development. During this conversation, you’ll have the opportunity to walk through your experience, discuss your background, and demonstrate your understanding of the key responsibilities of the role
- This is also a chance for you to learn more about the team, how we work, and ask any questions about the position
- Stage 2: Paired programming session
- If successful, you will be invited to a paired programming interview with a member of the development team. This session is designed to be collaborative, giving you the opportunity to work through a practical task together and demonstrate your problem-solving approach, coding style, and technical understanding
Our take
The utilities industry has a bit of a hidden problem: messy data. Customer records (especially addresses) are often wrong or out of date, making things like billing, credit checks, and fraud prevention harder than they should be. With people moving more often and new properties constantly being built, it's a growing issue. So, as utilities try to modernise, getting this data right is becoming a must-have.
That's exactly the space IDenteq is working in, helping utilities clean up and make better use of their customer data through its software platform. It offers tools for things like address cleansing and figuring out who actually lives at what property, helping companies avoid errors and operate more efficiently. The goal is simple: fix the data upfront so problems don't pop up later.
The business has been seeing real traction too, and its recent £700,000 follow-on investment is a sure sign of that. The funding will help IDenteq build new products, expand into new markets, and grow the team. It appears that the company is moving into the next stage of growth and is on its way to becoming a key player in how utilities manage and trust their data.
