Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of professional experience working in product design
- A consistent track record of shipped work that demonstrates a strong understanding of design fundamentals, including visual hierarchy, interaction design, and the application of brand and system principles
- Experience designing for native apps (iOS and Android) and are familiar with platform-specific interaction patterns. You can showcase examples of thinking cross-platforms
- You’ve worked closely with cross-functional partners to identify and define new opportunities, and you’ve efficiently implemented ideas that deliver measurable positive results
- You bring highly developed design skills and have examples to showcase in your portfolio. This includes crafting end-to-end flows, creating polished prototypes, demonstrating industry-standard interaction patterns, and applying a design system efficiently
- Articulate ideas and design solutions clearly and thoughtfully
- Share feedback thoughtfully and with clarity, and you easily incorporate feedback into your own work
- Comfortable with ambiguity and know how to navigate and define projects where the problem space is well-understood but the solution space is less established
- Positively add to team culture, bringing motivation, optimism, quality, and integrity to everything you do
What the job involves
- The Payments team is focused on creating a world where people can shop and sell with trust, and where every payment is a positive experience
- As a Senior Product Designer on Payments, you will be responsible for creating thorough, polished and intuitive experiences across Etsy's entire payments ecosystem
- Your work will span the full payments journey—from helping buyers complete transactions seamlessly to enabling sellers to get paid efficiently—while ensuring Etsy meets its regulatory and tax obligations across our global marketplace
- You'll tackle diverse challenges including global market expansion, seller onboarding flows, compliance experiences, and payment optimization initiatives
- Working closely with partners across Product, User Research, and Analytics, you'll identify customer pain points across different payments touchpoints and craft high-quality solutions that balance user needs with business requirements
- This position requires creative and analytical skills, with the ability to context-switch between multiple projects and payment areas in an experimental and fast-paced environment
- This is a full-time position reporting to our Senior Design Manager
- Product designers at Etsy work in a squad alongside a product manager, 4-6 engineers, a researcher and a data analyst. Together they drive their own part of the Etsy customer experience by delivering solutions to problems and getting feedback directly from customers
- Lead independently or provide direction to your squad, stepping in where needed to ensure collaboration and progress
- Facilitate discovery and conceptualization workshops that align teams efficiently, identifying experiments, measuring their success, and iterating toward broader strategic goals
- Designing easy to use user flows and crafting polished, interactive prototypes that bring your team’s roadmap to life
- Think and design at a systems level, crafting and influencing design systems to ensure consistency and scalability across projects
- Share your work regularly with peers and leadership, incorporating feedback and collaborating closely with engineering to deliver high-quality results
- You mentor designers by offering clear, actionable feedback in critiques, workshops, and team meetings, helping to elevate the quality of the team’s work
- Actively participate in onboarding and encouraging a culture of engagement and collaboration within your design team

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
