Firstminute Capital was founded in 2017 with the intention of being a leading seed fund in the US and Europe. The venture capital (VC) market is large, high-stakes and highly competitive, occupied by a range of established players and ambitious newcomers. Big players include London-based Ascension and European firm CVC.
Firstminute Capital has so far made 70 investments. The better-known ones include Typology, the skincare brand founded by Ning Li of Made.com; Element, the encrypted messaging platform; and data analytics’ provider Skew, which exited to Coinbase. Half of the current portfolio companies have come from the UK, with the remaining half split between continental Europe and North America.
Its edge comes from the founders' credentials. Hoberman and Crawley have successfully leveraged their extensive founding and investment experience in order to draw a wide roster of investors, including over 100 unicorn investors, and Firstminute is well-placed to continue its success.
