Role
Who you are
- 3+ years of experience in iOS development
- Experience working in cross-functional teams in a metric-driven framework, ideally OKRs
- Strong expertise in Swift, with hands-on experience in app development using either UIKit or SwiftUI, with a preference for SwiftUI
- Commercial experience with shipping high quality apps to the App Store
- Preferably experience working with a Mobile CI such as Bitrise, CircleCI or Jenkins
- Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing designs and assessing their suitability for mobile applications
- Commitment to writing maintainable code and implementing valuable tests to facilitate safe and efficient development practices
- Skilled in working closely with various stakeholders including Product, Design, and fellow engineers to align objectives and drive successful outcomes
- Worked in a high growth start-up environment or product focused environment
What the job involves
- Our Mobile Team's mission is to build the best app in the business. That means creating a truly customer-first experience that makes the difficult (but essential) things easy, quick and intuitive
- You’ll work directly with our users to get a full picture of our customers and the problems we can solve for them. And you’ll do that as part of a cross-functional team to build a platform that is an essential part of their inclusive, easy-to-use and empathetic Marshmallow experience
- Working in a product team enabling a smooth app experience for tens of thousands of policies, ensuring that we provide customers with affordable, instant, and inclusive insurance
- Help shape technical direction through lightweight scoping, estimation, and planning. We follow Agile principles without rigid processes—blending the best of Scrum, Kanban, and other high-performing team rituals. We’re looking for adaptable engineers who thrive in flexible, fast-moving environments
- Work closely with the cross-functional team members to understand requirements, build solutions, deliver functionality, write automation tests and build continuous delivery pipelines all the way through to deployment, monitoring and supporting these systems in production
- Help us evolve our architecture to optimise for product delivery speed
- Participate in setting the quarterly team OKRs
- Our Tech Stack:
- SwiftUI for new features (approx. 90% of the app)
- Modular architecture using local Swift packages
- Automated testing: unit tests, snapshot tests, and UI tests
- Bitrise for continuous integration
- Fastlane for TestFlight and App Store deployments
- SwiftLint, SwiftFormat, and Danger for automated code styling and checks
- We use Tuist to help us manage our modular architecture and speed up our builds
Application process
- Initial call with Tech Talent Acquisition team via Zoom (40 mins)
- A take-home assessment (several days at your discretion) which will be reviewed by our Engineers
- Follow up technical interview with our Engineers to walk us through your take-home task and questions around your past experience and projects via Zoom (90 mins)
- A culture & past experience interview with one of our Engineering Managers to check that your ways of working aligns with our processes, mission and values (1 hour)
- We’ll let you know if you’re invited to an interview or not. But, as a small team with a lot of applications to consider, we can’t give individual feedback on each application

Naturally, this approach has proven popular, with Marshmallow garnering impressive reviews and accolades since it first launched.
The insurtech space is becoming increasingly competitive, and more and more tech companies are moving into the car insurance space, so the company is currently looking to expand into other insurance areas. Marshmallow’s unicorn status and doubling of profit since 2023 are clear indicators of the company’s ongoing success and scalability, and will help to facilitate this diversification.
For now, the company is focused on helping those outside the norm, such as those who have uprooted their lives and moved to the UK. But in the future, it hopes to expand to any group of people who are unfairly marginalised and whose problems Marshmallow is uniquely positioned to solve.
