Role
Who you are
- A true founder mindset. Hands-on, driven, resilient, not taking no for an answer. Fully aware that being a founder comes with a strong upside but none of the economic security of a corporate career -- and happy with it
- Proven success as a founder or in a top-level role in a startup with significant impact on the success of the company
- Comfortable with ambiguity, happy to make decisions under pressure and with incomplete information
- A solid academic background, preferably with a degree in business, economics, science or engineering
- Logistics experience is a plus, but not a requirement
- Proven people leadership and effective communication
- Solid analytical and quantitative skills
- Creative problem solving
- Fluent English. German is a plus. So are other languages
- A good sense of humour and a great team player
What the job involves
- Join our next venture as Co-Founder and managing director of an early stage, industry redefining start-up
- Start with a validated concept and tested idea as well as initial funding to bring your venture and your team to speed from day one
- We will support you in building your co-founding team, setting up your company and securing the funding to get going
- Over the next 6 - 12 months you will focus on product/market fit, building the team and raising your first round of outside investment. And after that, up and to the right!
- We’ll have your back and support you every step of the way
- As the Co-Founder and CEO or CTO, you will be fully responsible for the strategy, growth and overall success of your company and the technology product
- Attract, retain and develop a world-class team
- Set the tone, build the culture, be a role model
- Build a sound, scalable organisation structure and processes
- Drive product and tech development
- Drive customer acquisition, retention and growth
- Own and control finance, from top/bottom line performance and controlling to financing rounds
- Own all legal and compliance matters
- Be the face of the company to the outside world, establish partnerships and build a strong presence in the market
Our take
Around 90% of goods are traded over the sea, but the maritime industry has been somewhat left behind by the digital transformation that has swept through land-based logistics and most other industries. However, this situation is starting to change. One company helping to reshape the maritime sector is Flagship Founders, a venture studio focused on supporting startups seeking to disrupt the shipping industry.
Flagship Founders provides significant support in industry expertise and investment to founders with ideas that can move the industry forward, helping them achieve product/market fit and build successful, scalable products. To date it has launched four startups: Kaiko, a shipping fleet management system which has achieved 50% gains in efficient operations, Tilla, a platform for optimizing crew changes, zero44, providing carbon emission reduction software to the shipping industry, and Arinto, an arrival scheduling system for increasing efficiency and reducing pollution in ports.
Flagship Founders recently closed a seed funding round which was led by F. Laeisz, a major shipping, trade and insurance group. It will use this capital to build out its team and to continue to support its portfolio of startups. As the maritime industry moves to adopt digital improvements to its operations to drive efficiency and cut waste, Flagship Founders is in an excellent position to bring the digital revolution to a sector in need of change.
