Who you are
- 4+ years as a Product Manager: You have seen a significant product through a full lifecycle of discovery, development, launch, and adoption in a B2B space.
- Customer focus: You care deeply about your customers and their problems, and you work tirelessly to innovate on their behalf.
- An analytical approach: You have strong SQL skills and use data to properly evaluate the success or failure of features and drive key learnings.
- Prioritization: You have clear rationale behind the tradeoffs you make and strive to deliver immediate/tangible value to customers.
- Collaboration: You crisply articulate context and rationale that helps bring along a wide range of stakeholders across engineering, sales, design, marketing, legal, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication: You can talk and write about complex ideas concisely to a wide audience (e.g. FAQs and business cases for your roadmap).
- GTM: You have taken your product to market and worked through pricing and packaging.
What the job involves
- The GL JS product is a JavaScript based web mapping service. Its performance, real-time styling, and interactivity features set the bar for anyone building fast and immersive web maps. It is engineered to render even the most detailed, feature-dense maps at 60 FPS on both desktop and mobile devices
- As a Sr. Product Manager for our GL JS product, you will partner with a passionate group of globally distributed engineers, a variety of customers and internal stakeholders like Sales, Marketing, and Finance to make customers wildly successful in pursuit of outsized business growth
- You will own and drive the vision, roadmap, pricing, and go to market for your service
- You are a product leader who is comfortable using data to inform decisions, demonstrates customer empathy, and has solid instincts
Our take
Location data platform Mapbox provides custom online maps for an impressive list of apps and websites including Facebook, IBM, Lonely Planet, and Snapchat. It has more than 3.5 million registered developers using its toolkit because of the platform's flexibility, security, and privacy, and has rapidly expanded to become a leading provider of custom map services, competing with companies like Google and Here.
Its more flexible and less costly service is winning it a real edge - and some major Google clients, like Foursquare, who defected in 2012. Its service Mapbox Dash uses the increasingly popular what3words service to offer highly accurate dashboard navigation. Mapbox Dash has already been integrated into General Motors vehicles as Maps+, indicating significant industry support for Mapbox’s software - and a strong strategic eye for new ways of embedding itself into lucrative markets.
Such a promising performance helped Mapbox reach Unicorn status, and more recently secure a strategic partnership with Toyota Motor Europe to provide its maps and location platform in a number of its car models. Paired with its work in digital twinning with Snowflake and recent partnerships with Michelin Mobility, it's clear that Mapbox is doing exciting and important work on a service that has promising, multi-industry applications in a market expected to reach $33.18 billion by 2027.
