Who you are

Strong academic background in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field. At least MSc degree, PhD preferred
5+ years of experience or equivalent in machine learning, data engineering, or a related field
Expertise in Python, including data science and ML
Experience building and deploying ETL pipelines and working with large, complex datasets
Hands-on experience with various database technologies, including SQL, NoSQL, and graph databases

Desirable

Proven ability to work independently and in fast-paced, early-stage startup environments
Practical experience working with LLMs or other advanced AI/ML models in production is a big plus

At Lapis, we're not just building software — we're reimagining how AI and finance collide. We're looking for a Data Scientist who doesn't just do the job, but owns it. Someone who thrives on complex problems, moves fast, and wants to leave their mark on a real product
This is not a “tune-the-model” kind of role. You’ll be working directly with the CTO to architect and build a core piece of our fintech AI platform — something that doesn’t exist yet. You’ll lead the design of data systems that blend LLMs, structured and unstructured data, and modern ML pipelines into real, deployable value. We work across SQL, NoSQL, graph databases, and anything else that fits the challenge

Design and implement ML pipelines, data workflows, and data infrastructure to support AI-powered fintech applications
Lead efforts in data modelling and ETL design, leveraging various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, GraphDBs)
Work with the CTO to architect and build a macro component of our AI fintech software
Collaborate with backend and ML teams to integrate LLMs and other AI models into production systems
Conduct exploratory data analysis, build prototypes, and help shape product direction using data insights
Ensure data quality, consistency, and performance across systems. Deploy models and data pipelines in cloud environments (primarily Azure)
