Role
Who you are
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Requires 3+ years of related test engineering experience
- Active US government security clearance at Secret Level. Clearances are granted to US Citizens
Desirable
- Experience with ADSI, JRE, BOSS or MLST3 are highly desirable
- Knowledge of computer hardware operations and systems test procedures
- Knowledge of technical tactical data links and C4I systems
- Ability to recognize and resolve problems, select work methods, and set priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Skill in analyzing complex activities and information involving some original interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions
- Skill in troubleshooting and testing computer systems
What the job involves
- Ultra I&C is hiring a Test Engineer 2 which may be worked at our Austin, TX or Huntsville, AL site
- The Test Engineer 2 will join a highly talented team and write test procedures and tests software products
- This is a staff-level position involved in assessing program/project effectiveness and investigating or analyzing a variety of unusual conditions, problems, or questions
- Develops/writes system test plans and procedures in accordance with industry standards (IEEE Standard for Software Test Documentation etc.)
- Simulates end-user operations and executes test procedures
- Supports the generation of testable requirements and designs test bed architecture
- Writes detailed test cases and articulates results in chosen software development lifecycle management tool (e.g., Digital.ai Agility, JIRA etc.)
- Provides technical support and assists the Senior Test Engineers in accomplishing required tasks

The company comprises maritime, forensics, and energy divisions, an intelligence and communications division, and a unit working in Precision Control Systems for aerospace.
Ultra operates in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, working with clients including the US Department of Defense, and BAE. In 2022, Ultra was acquired – to some controversy – by US private equity firm Advent International. Concerns about the sale of a UK defence firm to a foreign entity caused the government to get involved before the deal, only allowing the acquisition under a pile of conditions.
With this development, Ultra is said to be undergoing significant remodelling, and it will be interesting to see how it emerges.
