Who you are
- It requires someone who has strong technical skills whilst being entrepreneurial and proactive, with the ability to develop key stakeholder relationships quickly
- You will also need to be a team player and collaborator, working across multi-discipline teams and be confident working with other technical specialists and analysts
- Expert in the Microsoft Azure Stack
- Experience using data tools such as SQL, Excel, or Python
- Expertise in delivering data models within data visualisation tools, ideally with Power BI exposure
- Strong communication and organisation skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- A passion for continuous learning and self-improvement
- Significant experience in data and analysis with a track record of value-add deliveries
- Previous experience in financial services or with market data is desirable
What the job involves
- The Data Engineering team sits within the wider Data & Analytics function at aberdeen, delivering high-quality reporting, analytics, and insights to key stakeholders
- The team is focused on ensuring our data can be taken from source systems and joined together to create powerful data sets for use by the analytics team and the wider business
- We are looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to help develop a new centralised “single view” data model
- This will be used to deliver new and improved insight and reporting to our key stakeholders

- This role will play a critical part in driving data-driven decision-making and innovation within the company
- Your primary responsibility will be to develop a multi sourced data model that can be used to create and delivery specific reporting data models that will be used for dashboards, reporting, and insights
- The analytics this supports will drive tangible value and change for our clients and our business
- You will need to blend a mix of back-end and front-end data engineering to produce well governed and scalable data models
- Deliver high quality and high impact data models
- Analysing raw data and developing and maintaining datasets
- Improving data quality and efficiency and building pipelines
- Ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies
- Work closely with all stakeholders, ensuring they are managed effectively, and that communication is timely and informative
- Identify new ways of using our data sources and help shape our data strategy
- Mentoring junior team members and the wider business community

Abrdn, formerly known as Standard Life Aberdeen, is a global investment company helping its clients to save and invest for their futures. It operates three businesses - Investments, Adviser and Personal - and has been operating since way back in 1825.
Nowadays, atop its investment and advice services, the company delivers two platforms for financial advisers. The first, Wrap, enables users to build and manage portfolios for each client. It also includes SIPP drawdown capabilities - which means advisers can choose the best platform charges when client assets are at their highest. The second, Elevate, encompasses a suite of tools for advisers to save time and make sure their clients are informed.
Recently, Abrdn announced "adviserOS" which represents an upgrade to their platform offerings. There is limited information to go on, but the company claims this new venture will be more simple and data-led, as well as require less admin. It will be interesting to see if this new release keeps pace with tech developments across the investment space, and allows abrdn to continue as an innovator.
