Who you are
- 12+ years of experience in internal communications in the tech industry
- Experience developing and executing company-wide internal communication strategies for rapidly scaling companies
- Excellent written and verbal communicator who can translate complex topics into simple language
- Proven experience as a trusted communications advisor to internal stakeholders
- Experience launching and managing company wide systems like intranet and AI tools that help employees be more efficient
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong production skills that will help use a variety of communications channels to reach employees
What the job involves
- The Communications team is critical to the advancement of our mission. We are storytellers, blending data-driven insights and unique voices to shape the conversation, differentiate our brand, and inspire internal audiences
- As the Internal Communications Lead, you will inspire Aurorans and strengthen their connection to our mission. You will be responsible for motivating and educating employees, fostering rich conversation, and improving discovery of and access to essential information. This is an individual contributor role
- Focus on proactive Internal Communications Strategies:
- Develop communication strategies that help employees feel connected to our mission, understand the “why” behind core company priorities, and provide context for company decisions so that they understand how to prioritize their work
- Develop initiatives that drive engagement and ensure employees feel connected to our leaders and one another
- Develop and manage the editorial calendar for all internal communication channels
- Develop Employer Brand Strategy & Employee Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal teams on the development and refinement of Aurora's employer brand. This involves working closely with our People and Marketing teams to define and articulate what makes Aurora a unique and desirable place to work
- Own Executive Communications:
- Serve as an advisor to internal stakeholders, guiding them on communication strategies and ensuring consistency across all internal channels
- Develop various internal materials, such as communication plans, executive and company emails, announcements, talking points, and executive briefing materials
- Explore Tooling and Systems:
- Explore, evaluate, and manage how AI-powered tools and an integrated intranet can improve employee engagement and information accessibility
Our take
The trucking industry is facing growing pressure from driver shortages, rising delivery demand, and the need for safer, more efficient freight transport. Long highway routes are expensive and tiring for drivers, especially on repetitive trips so companies are looking for new ways to move goods faster and more reliably while keeping costs low and improving safety.
Aurora Innovations is developing self-driving technology for long-haul trucks through its "Aurora Driver" system. Already, the company is operating autonomous freight routes across Texas and nearby states, often handling the highway portion of deliveries while human drivers complete local drop-offs. On top of this, the company is partnering with major companies like McLane, Volvo Autonomous Solutions, and Hirschbach to bring autonomous trucking into real commercial use.
In an exciting move, Aurora is now going beyond testing and into large-scale operations. McLane has approved driverless freight runs between Dallas and Houston, while Volvo and Aurora have expanded autonomous deliveries into Oklahoma City. With plans to scale routes across the US and agreements for hundreds of future autonomous trucks, Aurora is gearing up to play a very powerful position in autonomous freight transport.
