Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in design or a related field
- Portfolio showcasing your design work as well as your design process
- 8+ years of professional design experience
- Demonstrate a user-centered approach to designing software and services
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Experience designing responsive websites, mobile apps, and/or living room experiences
- Exceptional prowess in design programs like Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficient knowledge and skill in wireframing, prototyping, and UI and interaction design
- Effective storytelling skills and an ability to present design work
- Experience working with design systems, guidelines, and other standard methodologies
- Experience using data to advise in design decisions and business impact
- Ability to align stakeholders within technical limitations to deliver good experiences for users as well as business leaders
What the job involves
- As a Senior Product Designer working on Marketing technology at Crunchyroll, you will oversee the design and user experience opportunities where we are aiming to get the word out about Anime, and why it’s amazing
- You will work in a team of designers who collaborate with user researchers, product management, and engineers to evolve the user experience through iterative improvements and new features
- Your designs should show a deep understanding of design best practices, the industry and our competitors, business needs, and most importantly, empathy for our users
- You will think through complex problems and use your design expertise to deliver solutions that provide our users with an outstanding user experience that is both elegant and functional
- Visual Storytelling: Craft compelling visuals and graphics that effectively convey Crunchyroll’s brand’s message, value proposition, and story to capture the attention of potential customers
- Marketing Assets: Develop a wide range of marketing assets, landing pages, social media visuals, and email templates, to support various marketing campaigns and promotions
- Branding Consistency: Ensure brand consistency across all marketing materials, maintaining a cohesive look and feel that resonates with the target audience
- User-Centric Approach: Apply user-centered design principles to create materials that resonate with the target audience and guide them towards the desired actions, like signing up or making a purchase
- Performance Optimization: Collaborate closely with marketing teams to analyze the performance of design assets and iterate on them to improve conversion rates and overall marketing effectiveness
- Constantly develop a deeper empathy for our users. In partnership with our user research team, gain and apply user insights to new concepts and in-development designs. Ensure that design decisions are rooted in a clear understanding of user needs and motivations
- Collaborate with designers on other teams to ensure that design solutions for a specific platform are scalable and the experience is holistic and seamless for the end-users across all platforms
- You will report to the Director of Product Design

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
