Who you are
- Excellent academic credentials required
- Law degree or equivalent required
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Deltaview required
- Previous paralegal experience required
- Previous experience in the media industry preferred
- Previous experience in a multinational environment preferred
- Must be well organized, efficient and have ability to prioritize
- Must have ability to handle multiple tasks and handle conflicting deadlines in short timeframe
- Must have excellent (written and verbal) communication skills
- Must have excellent attention to detail (including proof reading)
- Trustworthy and able to handle confidential issues with the utmost discretion
- Ability to think ahead and anticipate needs of function and remain calm under pressure

What the job involves
- Draft various contracts from standard forms, negotiate (under close supervision from the departmental lawyers) and conclude contracts including format option and format license agreements, format acquisition agreements, standard license and distribution agreements and supporting documentation, term sheets, amendments, contract orders, riders, notice letters, competition and contest agreements and other related agreements, deal memos and other required documentation
- Tracking contracts at various stages of execution
- Creating and maintaining deal summaries and recording and tracking option expiry dates in format and program license agreements entered into by the Content Distribution team
- To draft consultancy agreements, development agreements and other ancillary legal agreements such as non-disclosure agreements
- Carrying out due diligence on content licensees and other third parties involved in local productions, to ensure compliance with applicable anti-corruption laws and liaising with the Warner Bros. Discovery International compliance team in respect thereof
- Support the protection of the company’s intellectual Draft and assist with any necessary legal filings such as WBITVP’s Format Registration Procedure (FRP). Analyse format license agreements and related agreements (including underlying rights agreements) to provide rights availability, holdback and other related information to sales department
- To research and provide other support with respect to the clearance of current and library television formats and programming and other underlying rights issues
- Provide general office support such as maintaining and organising the department’s master files of signed agreements and WBITVP format credits bible; overseeing submission of outside counsel bills and other invoices for payment
- Assists with Company and departmental projects and/or initiatives. Will involve handling tasks with exposure to a wide range of business issues, within the support of an experienced legal team

It is a leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content, with Warner Bros alone boasting a huge library – more than 100,000 hours of programming – before the companies were joined. WBD’s portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Discovery+, HBO Max, and franchises like “Batman” and “Harry Potter”.
Both of the company’s previous businesses have operated throughout the digitisation of the media space. David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, headed Discovery during its expansion into digital media, to make it a “content company” over a “cable company”. The recent focus for Warner Bros has been on next-gen distribution efforts, expanding the availability of its content across platforms and devices to reach the modern viewer. The new company has plans to migrate to one tech stack, which will require extensive retooling, as well as exploring cost-saving automation opportunities for its operations.
Since the merger, the new giant that is Warner Bros Discovery has had a shaky start, forcing the company to wind down operations and cut back on content, which included the very public scrapping of the “Batgirl” movie. However, it now seems the company may have been ahead of the curve, as a wider trend of cutbacks has been seen from peers in the space. This early move, combined with a hyper-focus on cash generation, seeks to establish WBD as an outperformer in an industry on the downturn.
