Who you are
- For this role, we’re open to candidates who are at a Senior level or above (e.g., Staff or Principal)
- Passion for building 3D tools that empower others to create
- Experience as a Tools Engineer or in a similar role within the gaming industry
- Expert in C++ and experience with Unreal Engine
- Strong UX design sense and a passion for creating user-friendly interfaces
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and translate concepts into functional tools
- Ability to successfully communicate and collaborate in a fully remote environment
Desirable
- A passion for gaming and a deep understanding of UGC
- Experience developing multiplayer games, custom levels, and maps
- Experience with modding or creating modding tools
What the job involves
- As a 3D Tools Software Engineer at OCP, you will play a pivotal role in defining and building the user experience for our game creation sandbox, CreatorLab
- You’ll lead the charge in building creator-focused tools that make it easy and enjoyable to express new games in CreatorLab
- What you build will be used both by other OCP developers to make our own first-party game, Project Frontier, and by creators to remix Frontier into new games
- Build world-class tools that allow intuitive expression of sandbox action RPG game design for creators at various levels of sophistication
- Help define and lead the implementation of a user-friendly UX for creation within CreatorLab
- Design, develop, and maintain tools and systems that facilitate the creation, testing, and deployment of user-generated content
- Optimize tools and workflows to ensure efficient content creation, focusing on performance and scalability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including game designers and artists, to identify pain points in content creation and create solutions that improve the overall user experience
Our take
Developing a game not only requires a good concept, but also the technical know-how to bring that concept to virtual life, a fact which has left many creators unable to make the games of their imaginations a reality. Omni Creator Products (OCP) aims to democratize game development, by providing the tools for anyone to create a game without the need for technical expertise.
OCP, founded in 2021, wants every player to be able to make their own game, and is working on a pair of projects to that end. The first is a minimal tool palette for game design, built to be intuitive and accessible to the non-technical. The second is a full-featured social game which creators can use as a base for their own games, modifying only the aspects they want to whilst safe in the knowledge that the rest will continue to function.
The OCP team comprises several industry veterans from an array of successful gaming companies, which bodes well for the future of its product and the space it will find in the market. The company has been focused on hiring additional talent to accelerate the development of its projects.
