Who you are

5+ years of production-level SRE/DevOps experience
In-depth hands-on knowledge of AWS, advanced knowledge of Ansible and Terraform
Experience with Windows Server 2019+
Understanding of Java applications
Strong understanding of systems, networks and troubleshooting techniques
Experience in automated build pipeline, and continuous integration
Working knowledge of relational databases (Visual Studio / SQL Server 2019+)
Knowledge of cloud monitoring, logging and cost management tools
Strong programming/scripting knowledge (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.)
Spectrum (Shaw Systems) experience is a plus

What the job involves

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will work alongside our DevOps teams to support our Spectrum (Shaw Systems) partnership
You’ll focus on SRE/DevOps contributions including automating build pipelines, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and scripting
This blended role will leverage AWS, automation using Terraform/Ansible, and work with Java-based applications along with Windows and SQL Server 2019+
Build a resilient, secure, and efficient cloud based platform
Automate deployment, monitoring, management and incident response
Monitor and troubleshoot platform issues
Build and scale the technology infrastructure to meet rapidly increasing demand
Manage cross-functional requirements working with various company stakeholders
Collaborate with Development and QA to launch new features and services
Develop and improve operational practices and procedures
Be on-call rotation with after business hours tasks

Our take

Most credit cards don't encourage the owner to pay down their debt. The longer it takes to pay off the balance, the more money lenders are set to make. Upgrade is an online lender and card issuer doing things differently. The company offers personal loans and credit cards but with a fixed instalment structure and a set number of equal payments. This ensures the balance reduces every month.

The company believes this model reduces default rates, as borrowers are forced to pay down rather than maintain their debt, and it encourages a greater commitment to repay the balance. Further, by combining the ease of a Visa card with the fixed payments and decreased rates of a personal loan, Upgrade sets itself apart from competitors.

In 2021, Upgrade launched its mobile banking and debit card as a strategy to onboard new customers and increase loyalty. The fixed-rate nature of the company's cards is expected to be of use to customers in future years in an environment of rising rates. Upgrade also plans to expand beyond the U.S. in the future, which will represent new challenges for the business as it adapts to alternative regulations.
