Role
Who you are
- University degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology and/or relevant work experience
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes and testing
- You have experience with most of the following technologies: ColdFusion, ColdBox, Fusebox, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, MSSQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, or other relational databases
- You want to be part of a team dedicated to creating and delivering quality software. You define and follow best practices for web design and usability principles
- You will split your time between heads-down coding and team collaboration and innovation
What the job involves
- This is a 12-month contract position. You will be an Independent Consultant
- As a Software Developer at Modern Campus, you will be primarily responsible for designing and developing high quality solutions within our Lifelong Learning product
- You strive to continually improve the quality, performance and reliability of any code that you develop
- You are analytical and has the ability to solve interesting and complex problems and implement innovative solutions
- You will not only be utilizing your technical skills but also assist in translating business requirements into technical solutions by closely collaborating with Product Management
- We are looking for the type of person that loves to have their hands in everything and someone who can take on the challenge of working within a small growing team with a great deal of responsibility
- You are not only a strong and dependable individual contributor, but also a team contributor that will help drive the team efficiency and velocity
- Build end-to-end solutions, implementing and designing both the GUI and the server-side designs with high efficiency and quality
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle – requirements, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment
- Participate in the project planning process including estimating and process improvements in an Agile environment
- Deliver solutions that are highly usable, efficient, secure and scalable
- Strive at all times to do work using best practices – through experience or experimentation

Modern Campus offers a whole suite of engagement-oriented SaaS products for higher education institutions, including enrollment, communication, curriculum management, and career pathways planning.
The company’s roots go back to 1982 and the early days of web development and SaaS, but a 2019 merger between higher education CMS OmniUpdate, and Student Lifecycle Management (SLM) company Destiny Solutions, led to a 2021 rebrand as Modern Campus.
Now over 2,000 North American institutions are customers of the company, including St. Louis University and Utah Valley University. This gives an indication of Modern Campus’ relevance and strength of position in the market.
There are no signs of slowing down as Modern Campus looks to tap into increasing demand for the modernization of campus life. Since rebranding, the company has been making key acquisitions in the higher education sector to expand its own service range, including campus engagement platform Presence and conversational text messaging platform Signal Vine. Growth funding awarded in 2025 will be used to develop its product and continue its acquisition spree.
