Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience working in UX, UI, HCI related field with experience working on mobile applications (iOS/Android)
- Experience designing on multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Mobile web, Desktop, etc)
- Strong systems thinking abilities, understanding how different parts of an experience interact and contribute to a cohesive product
- Product thinking across businesses, with experience or interest in designing for partnership or cross-brand environments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly proficient with design tools (Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
- Highly proficient with interactive prototyping tools (Framer, Principle, Origami, etc.)
- Excellence in design craft
- Ability to work with a low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional team
- Excited about working in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and best practices

What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Product Designer to play a pivotal role in our partnerships initiatives, contributing to new experiences and offerings that integrate Lyft with other companies and brands
- You'll work alongside designers, engineers, researchers, marketers, data scientists, and product managers to define and create top-notch experiences with Riders needs at the center of your work
- This role focuses on creating innovative, user-centered solutions that enhance the Lyft ecosystem through strategic partnerships
- You’ll advocate for a customer-centric approach and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- From initial ideation through to launch, you'll support projects with interaction, visual, and product thinking skills, helping to define and deliver impactful experiences for our Rider Segments team
- As a member of the Partnerships team within Rider Segments, you'll work on projects that aim to drive growth through impactful, cross-company integrations
- You’ll collaborate on experiences that streamline and enrich our service offerings, designing interactions that resonate deeply with our Riders
- This role involves identifying how Lyft’s services can complement and enhance products from other companies, exploring new ways to foster loyalty, habitual use, and seamless interaction between Lyft and our partners
- Think big, explore diverse ideas, and iterate towards a creative, feasible solution that aligns with partnership goals and Rider needs
- Leverage research insights, user data, and analytics to inform design decisions, ensuring solutions are user-centered and partnership-friendly
- Create and deliver high-quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and interactive prototypes that adhere to design standards
- Work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to ideate, iterate, and implement partnership-driven features and services
- Apply systems thinking to create cohesive experiences across integration points, ensuring consistency between Lyft and partner brands
- Share and present work across teams with clear design rationale, fostering a collaborative, design-driven culture
- Contribute new ideas and solutions to inspire both the design team and cross-functional partners
- Collaborate with team members across functions to ensure a seamless, intuitive Rider experience within the Lyft ecosystem and in partnership with other brands
- Prioritize design solutions that address Rider needs and add brand value to both Lyft and partner offerings
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
