Who you are

Degree in computer science, maths or other technical subject, or equivalent commercial experience
Highly skilled in AWS ecosystem
Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible or other infrastructure management tools
Understanding of best practices for cloud development and testing
Strong background in Linux, Networking, Python and Shell scripting

What the job involves

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help us take the company infrastructure to the next level, creating a new platform function within the development team
Through our recent partnership with a billion-dollar US healthcare company, and our rapid growth within the NHS, we are entering a transition phase where we will scale our system usage by 10x over the next 12 months
This role would suit a Platform Engineer with a software engineering background who has been working mainly within AWS and Linux ecosystems

We are looking for problem-solvers who are committed and analytical, keen to learn while always being delivery minded, self-starters for whom everything is possible but the best solution is always the most appropriate one. Working with the Head of Engineering to create a consistent cloud management approach ensuring AWS usage is compliant, observable and cost-efficient
Improving our AWS architecture and embedding the well-architected framework
Monitoring the system, reacting to incidents and ensuring we hit uptime, scalability and compliance targets
Maintaining a set of self-hosted tools used in the daily dev cycle
Working with other Lead Engineers helping them to improve DevEx through CI/CD improvements
Being a DevOps advocate

The strain placed on healthcare systems over recent years has galvanised substantial and necessary changes in the way these institutions operate. One of them is remote patient monitoring. HOPco’s app allows patients to remotely connect with their care providers easily and frequently, recording their own recovery data and outcomes. These data sets become insights, which are subsequently shared with major orthopaedic research institutions worldwide.

It’s a neat win/win dovetail on HOPco's part, one that addresses patients’ need for on-demand, quality care, and researchers’ need to underpin their work with broad, real-world data sets. Some scepticism has been voiced among both caregivers and patients about the relative quality of telemedical care. However, the lengthy patient backlogs and surgery cancellations of recent years have highlighted that offering remote healthcare options is, for many, not an option but a necessity.
