Who you are
- Ideally 1 year of relevant industry experience but this role is open to new graduates as well
- Basic knowledge in security incident detection and response techniques
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to projects with freedom and autonomy
- Ability to manage competing priorities and workload
- Proficiency in scripting or coding with an interpreted language such as Python
- Experience with serverless deployments in AWS, GCP, or Azure is a plus
What the job involves
- We are looking for a security engineer to join our detection and response engineering team
- You will have a unique opportunity to leverage your threat detection and response skillset to build some of the foundational systems and services to keep our infrastructure free from malicious actors and threats
- You will partner closely with all engineering teams, IT administrators, and compliance analysts to ensure that we maintain sufficient visibility into our environments and develop effective programs and practices to ensure that our environments are always secure
- Tooling and automation will be key to success as we scale our environments to meet customer demand
- Collaborate with engineering teams for building and setting up pipelines needed to gather relevant security telemetry
- Assist in building and maintaining an effective and scalable security monitoring infrastructure solution
- Contribute to detection strategies to identify anomalous activity and ensure that our critical infrastructure and services operate in a safe environment
- Triage alerts and drive security incidents to closure while reducing its potential impact to Confluent
- Build processes and workflows to triage security alerts and respond to real incidents
- Research new threat attack vectors and ensure that our detection and response capability is in line with the current threat landscape
- Proactively improve the quality of our detection rules and strive to eliminate classes of issues by working directly with engineering teams
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time.
The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
