Senior Data Engineer, NYSHEX

• 7+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining data models for complex, data-heavy technical products
• Strong proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and database design principles
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues
• Experience modeling structured and unstructured data
• Experience with SQL , NoSQL and columnar databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Redshift etc
• The ability to learn quickly
• A solid mix of initiative, imagination, and work ethic

Desirable

• As a Senior Data Engineer at NYSHEX, you will be responsible for owning the data model within NYSHEX
• You will develop a strong understanding of NYSHEX’s business and existing data infrastructure, identifying opportunities optimize data and improve overall data quality
• You will work with across our Operations, Engineering and Product departments to understand our current data and synthesize your learnings to design a robust, comprehensive data model at NYSHEX and be hands-on in implementing it
• This is a full-time role reporting to our Data Engineering Manager. NYSHEX currently operates on a hybrid model in which our team works from our NYC office 3 days a week, Monday through Wednesday, and flexibly on Thursdays and Fridays
• Own NYSHEX’s data model
• Create detailed data models and schema designs to support various business requirements
• Become an expert in NYSHEX’s business and technology stack, understanding how data is used across our business and platform
• Collaborate with various teams across the business (Operations, Product, etc.) to drive solutions that have a serious impact on our systems and our business overall
• Design and implement a comprehensive, structured data model for NYSHEX
• Optimize our data process, balancing maintaining optimal performance and continuous improvements to our existing data processes
• Operate with an eye toward increasing the overall quality of NYSHEX’s data
• Design and develop tooling to support data operations across NYSHEX
• Consistently work to identify and mitigate security concerns, refactor old code judiciously, and follow development best practices
