Role
Who you are
- Have a track record of delivering impactful and critical products within tight constraints and deadlines, while maintaining a high level of quality in what is shipped
- Have experience leading and managing multiple teams of engineers with experience managing managers and staff+ engineers
- Have experience in coaching and mentoring engineers in your teams resulting in their growth through the career ladder
- Have experience working with product and other stakeholders to balance short term deliverables with long term technology investment
- Have 5+ years of experience working in consumer product environments and 5+ years of management experience, with at least 2 years of experience leading managers
What the job involves
- You will be responsible for two product engineering teams, Achieve and Explore
- Achieve’s charter is to help active people achieve their athletic goals
- They own features like our Progress and Training experiences, the Activity Page and Athlete Intelligence
- Explore’s charter is to help our athletes explore the world around them. They own features like Routes, Segments and how our users interact with Maps
- Lead two product engineering teams, inclusive of two engineering managers and mobile and server engineers
- Be responsible for the launching of features and novel experiences that bring increased value to our users
- Partner closely with product, design, analytics and other cross functional partners to ensure the success of your teams
- Build an inclusive and impactful team culture within your team
- Work closely with other engineering leaders on team wide initiatives such as hiring, the intern program and career development
- Engaging in work with an empathetic and business-aligned leadership mindset
- Working closely with internal stakeholders and understanding their needs
- Having a focus on shipping velocity
- Coaching the engineers on the team and supporting their career development, at all different levels and career stages
- Applying exceptional judgment to challenging situations
- Embracing an inclusive, collaborative environment that elevates a diverse set of voices and experiences
Our take
Strava has created an online network where runners, swimmers and cyclists can record fitness activities, and compare and compete with their community. It offers both a free and premium subscription service with added features. The company also partners with local councils and urban planners who purchase valuable journey data from Strava which can be used to map out cities and develop safer cycle paths.
The platform helps members discover and plan workouts, as well as offering a leaderboard which is updated using GPS as users compete for the top spot on particular fitness segments.
With over 125 million athletes and growing, Strava released several new product rollouts in 2024, including an AI-enabled leaderboard. A partnership with the wearable fitness tracker Oura will mean Strava software is available on wearables, taking the company into fresh competition with the likes of Peloton and Apple. In 2025, the company secured new funding in a round led by Sequoia Capital, growing its value to $2.2 billion.
