Who you are
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related discipline required; master’s degree in computer science or related field is a plus
- 5+ years experience as a software engineer
- 10+ years experience in software engineering leadership/management, including managing remotely and across geographies.
- 3+ years experience leading projects in at least one of: Java, Python, Ruby on Rails
- Deep understanding of CI/CD, shift-left testing, and SaaS
- Proven success managing software engineering function, but also QE and SRE
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a specific ability to present to senior management, engineering teams, and customers
- Strong background in agile methodologies, and ability to mentor others on best use.
- Experience adapting processes to business needs, and ability to mentor others
- Experience in front of customers, representing the company and product, building important relationships
What the job involves
- Collaborate and communicate with teams to design, developer, and champion best practices, patterns, and standards for our multi-tenant SaaS application.
- Work in a wide range of capacities including: technical leadership, mentorship, and project management
- Define and implement new strategy & new process (i.e. Operating in a green field, not just managing through the obvious)
- Manage a team through initiatives, when requirements aren’t perfect, and outcome isn’t obvious.
- Identify and implement creative ways to increase team velocity
- Contribute to budget process, helping to author and present budgets, and manage tightly within approved budget
- Inspire a high-performance, globally-distributed, application engineering organization to deliver world-class results
- Seize ownership of hard initiatives, and run them from beginning to end
- Identify, attract, and retain a distributed, world-class team
- Manage successfully to both non-functional requirements and functional requirements. This may include, but not limited to: performance, security, observability, usability, accessibility, etc.
- Make pragmatic decisions, with an innate sense of when quick decisions are needed, and when more data is required
- Proactively drive change, question assumptions, and push for more innovation
- Participate actively in cross-functional meetings, architecture discussions, and prioritization planning.
- Ensure teams have well-understood priorities and adequate resources
- Empower managers and individual contributors to self-organize and make informed decisions
- Understand the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance, and be able to report on the status to the team, peers, and leadership team
