Who you are

Broad experience architecting, designing, and building large-scale distributed systems
Experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS with hands-on experience of one or more public cloud offerings (AWS)
At least 4 years of experience creating and implementing high-volume, low latency distributed systems
10+ years of experience building software, with 4+ years in an architect role working across teams
Fluency in any modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, Javascript, go etc.), version control (git), CI/CD, and in architecture patterns for distributed systems
You see the interactions between technical decisions, people and process on a long timescale. Past management experience would help you with this but isn't essential. You can apply platform thinking to focus on efficient usability by our internal customers, and how we can support many more consumers, and how we work with people at different levels of knowledge and skill
Experience in enterprise security and identity management

What the job involves

Form long-term plans and architectural north stars, and lead the technical roadmap to align with the goal
Ensure that excellent operational and engineering health is maintained across our systems
Introduce and improve adoption of new technologies and best practices from across the industry
Deep-dive and work with dev teams when needed to resolve important challenges
Work with architects across Atlassian to align technical strategies and understand the needs of our platform consumers
Partner with leadership, stakeholders, cross-functional teams

Atlassian creates software products for developers and project managers to help teams work together more efficiently. Since its founding in 2002, the global company has built up a strong suite of high-performing products including Jira, Trello, and Confluence.

Whilst their focus has predominantly been on software team management, products like Trello mark a shift in strategy for Atlassian, who intend to expand their coverage to other sectors. It is a smart move: with companies increasingly operating globally, the ability to coordinate projects from a common hub is more useful than ever. This is further compounded by the shift to remote workforces over the early 2020s.

Atlassian plans to further enhance the user experience of its products by minimizing friction in its connecting apps, meaning that product integration will be easier for its customers. Atlassian continues to perform strongly financially, and with its products playing a key role in two major fields - Agile and DevOps - they look set to remain an integral and successful market leader as the industry develops.
