Role
Who you are
- This role requires a deep understanding of risk and governance and control assessment, with a focus on fintech and consumer financial services
- Minimum 12+ years of experience in Compliance, Legal, Audit, and/or Risk Management, with experience supporting consumer financial institutions and technology companies
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree (J.D., M.B.A.) strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of audit principles, methodology, tools, and processes (e.g., risk assessments, planning, testing, reporting and continuous monitoring)
- Prior experience in both 1st and 2nd line of defense capacities within consumer financial services industries
- Prior regulatory examiner experience is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to act decisively and independently to resolve sophisticated issues
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel as required for meetings, conferences, and other events
What the job involves
- As the first Head of Risk and Compliance Assurance at Flex, you will be responsible for developing and executing our third line of defense to examine and ensure the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal legal and compliance controls
- You will drive connectivity and trust between Flex’s board, bank partners, regulators, and day-to-day activities
- Provide an independent assessment of the effectiveness of the company’s first and second lines of defense, and constantly evaluate and monitor the company’s risk management, governance, and internal control processes
- Stay current with risk trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to ensure the function can advise on emerging risks
- Supervise 3rd party audits and exams. Report findings, issues, and recommendations to the executive risk committee, the board, and board risk/audit committee, and develop corrective action plans to address identified issues
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies. Engage with regulators and provide necessary information and reports as required
- Improve business processes, risk management, and internal controls and responsible for building and implementing roadmap for senior management/board approval
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Legal, Compliance, Security, and Operations, to ensure alignment between business practices and risk and compliance assurance goals
- Drive business transformation and controls. Navigate complex changes and challenging situations, with a focus on progress while building strong relationships and leading through influence
- Responsible for developing and building out the assurance team
Our take
Many people struggle to pay their rent every month, with a variety of bills hitting their bank accounts simultaneously. Whilst many of these people earn enough money to cover their bills, the inflexible nature of monthly bills can make the all-in-one payment a harder obstacle.
Flex provides a mobile application for the flexible payment of rent, allowing users to pay their landlords through flexible payment plans, reschedule payments when necessary, and protect their funds through Overdraft Protection. The company achieves this by partnering with estate agents and paying their resident's bills upfront, taking on the challenges that landlords would normally have due to late payments.
Flex has experienced extremely rapid growth since its founding which has caused some issues, as it struggled to keep up with the surge in new customers. Having made improvements to its product and scaled its customer service team, it is set to continue providing a service that has come to be highly valued by both tenants and landlords.
