Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have deep experience working in high-volume production environments, designing and building distributed architectures utilizing various cloud services (AWS Lambda/SQS/etc.), web application frameworks (Node/React) and database technologies (MongoDB/DynamoDB/MySQL/etc.)
- They will be a key member of a small team developing and supporting applications in a microservice architecture of a next-generation communication platform for the insurance industry
- 5+ years of software development experience. High performing candidates that have less experience are welcome and encouraged to apply
- Track record of successful delivery of high-quality applications and features to production systems
- Experience with distributed architectures, ideally in the AWS ecosystem
- Experience with relational and document-oriented databases. Including tuning and scaling
- Passion for test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines and code management tools
- Passion for design patterns and refactoring
- Experience in Node, Typescript, and modern frontend frameworks (React) preferred

- As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who has a passion for developing software solutions to join our Engineering Team.
- We thrive on teamwork and shared enthusiasm, which is why this role involves joining us in the office for two days each week
- Design, develop and help coach the team in the implementation of new and improvement of existing functionality within the Hi Marley architecture
- Assist in solving complex problems and transform them into business solutions
- Mentor and participate in reviews of other projects, offering valuable feedback
- Work with the team to develop stories and acceptance criteria
- Contribute to a highly motivated, positive, high energy work environment
- Technically own a part of the Hi Marley platform
- Help drive Marley’s user and developer experience towards the future

The insurance industry can be notoriously frustrating for policyholders during the claims process, with a reported 40% of people considering a switch of insurers following a claim. This is the outcome that Hi Marley wants to help carriers avoid.
The company uses an AI-enabled communication platform designed to allow insurance carriers and their partners to talk to policyholders in real time via simple text messaging. This ultimately gives carriers more opportunities to satisfy and retain their customers.
Hi Marley has enjoyed rapid in recent years, with a quadrupling of its user base. It has also more than doubled the number of carriers using its platform, which now include the likes of American Family, MetLife, Auto-Owners, Erie, and MAPFRE. Recent improvements such as the addition of a suite of collaborative tools to its platform seem likely to help it maintain its edge in the market.
