Role
Who you are
- At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, DevOps, SRE, or Security Engineer with a proven track record of operating production cloud environments at scale
- You must thrive in the dynamic environment of a smaller startup
- Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in multi-cloud operations – Amazon Web Services (AWS) is highly preferred; experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure is a plus
- Experience implementing infrastructure and security policy as code
- Strong software development skills, preferably in Python or another high level language
- Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills. You must be able to clearly and persuasively communicate complex concepts and risks in an engineering-driven environment
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code for automation and tooling. Experience building internal tools or services to eliminate manual work is a plus
- Familiarity with foundational networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPCs, firewalls) and their application in cloud and hybrid environments
- Strong hands-on skills with Linux and command-line tools; you are comfortable using terminals and utilities to manage and debug systems efficiently

- Collective is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with a deep passion for tackling complex problems in both new and existing systems
- You will play a crucial role in helping a young company scale into an industry leader. We're looking for someone who can justify their opinions with past examples and a strong knowledge of cutting-edge technologies and processes
- You should enjoy paving new paths, testing recovery plans, and managing quiet, stable systems
- Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform to provision, deploy, and manage cloud resources on AWS and GCP as well as other SaaS vendors
- Embed security best practices into the infrastructure by enforcing zero-trust architecture principles like least privilege and identity-based access to protect systems and data
- Understand the shared security model for the various products used
- Build systems that are both stable and cost effective
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans
- Collaborate with and mentor teams on CI/CD pipelines and assist with debugging
- Automate all the things to simplify your life and scale your impact
- Work closely with external teams to understand application needs and translate them into scalable infrastructure solutions
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to track system performance and reliability
- Proactively tune systems and address bottlenecks to maintain smooth operation of critical services
- Participate in the on-call rotation to respond to outages, recover systems, and guide incident response
- Determine root causes and drive the lessons learned process to improve system stability
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, and Platform Engineering
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects that enhance deployment speed, cost efficiency, and overall platform reliability

Having only launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest 2023 funding round is being used to accelerate the implementation of AI across its operations as well as onboard the nearly 100,000 waitlisted businesses. it launched an AI accounting platform for one-person operations in 2024, exemplifying the savvy use of its funds.
