Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 8+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern stack
- Our core stack is React / Java / Play / Spring / PostgreSQL, but you don't have to be an expert in any of these
- 4+ years Java, Kotlin or Scala programming experience
- Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact
- Understanding of relational databases and ORMs
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment (and git specifically), refining designs together, writing tests, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
- Agile-based project development in a microservices environment
- Willingness to collaborate with others to get stuff done
- Willingness to grow your leadership skills
Desirable
- Experience working on cloud services specifically AWS
- Interest in personal finance
- Experience building data models and pipelines
- Experience working in highly regulated environments
- Machine Learning and automated decision experience
- Experience scaling highly available, mission critical systems

What the job involves
- Full development life-cycle design from project requirement to deployment
- Work on automation and improvement of data exchanges and data pipelines between internal and external teams
- Facilitate the definition of project scope, deliverables, and goals
- Lead cross-functional delivery teams to ensure deliverables are met
- Track project performance against defined milestones/goals
- Conduct process improvement projects to increase performance in vital program metrics
- Communicate ongoing project health with key stakeholders and business leadership
- Maintain strict compliance with established project management policies and guidelines
- Take initiative and produce timely results in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Make significant contributions to the code base
- Define best practices and uphold coding standards
- Consistently demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity
- Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty

Our take
SoFi started by offering ways for students to secure better financial terms on their loans, and now offers a huge range of personal finance products, including bank accounts, loans, mortgages, investment advice, and investment opportunities. Many customers find they have to go to multiple financial service providers to meet all their finance needs, but SoFi overcomes this issue by putting it all in one place.
Its goal, to cover all the financial bases, sets it apart from many of the traditional banks and even some of their digital competitors, such as Avant, which has chosen to focus on providing credit alternatives. Although it is operating in a competitive market with a lot of big players such as Monzo, Revolut, and Starling, the company has managed to raise huge amounts of funding to support its rapid expansion.
SoFi has focussed on global expansion, moving outside the US, and has made a series of acquisitions to support this - including a Hong Kong-based investment app called 8 Securities. After going public on the New York Stock Exchange via a SPAC merger in June 2021, the company has continued to evolve and release more mission-oriented services into its roster, and strengthened its lending capabilities through a $350 million post-IPO loan. To date, the company has sold over $15 billion in personal loan collateral and continues to strengthen its offering.
