Role
Who you are
- You're a passionate and experienced design leader with a strong understanding of user-centered design principles
- You have a proven track record of leading and mentoring design teams, and you're excited about the opportunity to build and scale our design practice at HopSkipDrive
- 6+ years of experience in UI/UX design, with at least 3 years in a design leadership role
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your experience in leading and shipping successful consumer-facing products
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment
- Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing
- Experience in developing and implementing design systems and component libraries
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience working in an agile environment and a track record of delivering results on time and within budget
- Passion for creating products that make a positive impact in the lives of others
What the job involves
- Our Product Design team creates delightful experiences that solve complex problems for our clients, riders, parents CareDrivers, and our internal teams
- We take pride in building intuitive, accessible, and scalable products that support HopSkipDrive’s mission of creating opportunity for all through mobility
- Lead and mentor a team of talented UI/UX designers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, stepping in as a player-coach to design when necessary
- Develop and implement a cohesive design system and component library to ensure consistency and scalability across our products
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, Engineers, and User Researchers, to gather requirements, define user flows, and create intuitive user interfaces
- Oversee the end-to-end design process, from user research and wireframing to prototyping and visual design
- Advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring that our products are accessible, inclusive, and meet the needs of our diverse users
- Stay up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends and best practices, and proactively identify opportunities to improve our design processes and tools
Our take
Across the US, school transportation is under pressure as driver shortages, budget cuts, and rigid bus routes are making it harder for students to get to school safely and on time. This has opened the door for smaller vehicles and ride-hailing services to step in and support those students who don't fit neatly into traditional routes. HopSkipDrive has grown within this space, offering a flexible alternative that helps schools fill these gaps.
HopSkipDrive connects children with carefully vetted caregivers (often grandparents, nurses or childcare processionals) who then provide reliable rides when buses or public transport falls short. Operating in 17 states and supporting over 10,000 schools, the services has certainly eased commutes for many families.
And now the company is focsued on strenghtening its impact with technology and innovation. With its RouteWise AI platform it helps districts cut costs, improve efficiency and manage driver shortages, all while new safety modules and AI-driven planning tools continue to raise industry standards. With these advancements and a growing network of partners, the company is ready to keep shaping a more flexible futur for school transportation.
