Who you are
- 4+ years as a TPM, engineering or product leader
- Experience working across multiple functions/ business units, influencing and collaborating with others to successfully drive programs
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to work with business owners and product management to define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions
- Experience building roadmaps, project/release plans with a strong understanding of dependency management
- Experience using a consulting approach to identify and build business strategy
- Experience with PCI, SOC 2, SOX, and ISO27001 compliances
Desirable
- Management consulting experience a big plus
- MBA/MS or equivalent with specialization in marketing, finance, mathematics, business or related field of study
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a talented Technical Program Manager to manage and implement security programs for the broader Engineering team
- You will work closely with senior leadership across the engineering organization in order to strengthen security programs and systems while also reducing security risk for all aspects of doing business at Opendoor
- Build and lead strategic technical programs for the Security team
- Prioritize key technical initiatives and features to enforce security policies
- Partner with Engineering to educate the organization on the security risks of their design and implementation
- Drive clarity and structure in ambiguous situations by asking the right questions and applying insights you’ve gained
- Collaborate with engineering teams to drive remediation for identified vulnerabilities within established timeframes
- Develop and maintain metrics to track the effectiveness of the vulnerability management program
- Ensure continuous monitoring and improvement of vulnerability management processes
- Conduct regular audits of user access permissions to ensure compliance with SOX requirements
- Work with internal teams to identify and address access control issues in a timely manner
- Develop processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with SOX UAR requirements
- Manage diverse relationships with Engineering, Product, and Operations stakeholders to execute on operational recommendations
- Drive cross-team initiatives to bolster Opendoor’s overall security posture
- Participate in quarterly and annual planning for the Security team
Our take
Opendoor makes selling homes easy and stress-free by cutting out the prolonged processing time usually involved with a sale. Sellers can offload a house quickly and easily to the company for cash and a 6-9% fee. Currently operating in a growing number of markets nationwide, Opendoor has chimed well with millennials who gel quickly with online businesses that offer solutions to problems they encounter.
This buying and selling model doesn't come without risk. The longer Opendoor keeps a property, the lower its profit margin. However, Opendoor's performance has been anything but disappointing; it went public in 2021, with its pre-SPAC merger presentation calling for $3.5 billion in revenue. Its actual revenue trounced it, coming in at $8 billion - more than double its estimate.
Opendoor's largest competitor Zillow dropped out of the space in late 2021 because it struggled to price the homes it acquired accurately. Opendoor's closest remaining competitor is Offerpad, which does just a fraction of the transaction volume that Opendoor does. With strong earnings coming out of 2024, if Opendoor can continue to ride on this success long term it will have an enormous lead on existing and future competitors, giving it a shot to become the overwhelming market leader.
