Who you are

1-3 years of backend software engineering experience building and operating distributed systems in a major cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Strong experience in at least two of Python, Java, or Go, and comfort working across service boundaries and APIs
Experience with data-intensive systems (for example: object storage, relational databases, caches, queues/streams) and experience or strong interest in building products on top of LLMs or agents
Experience using AI agents as part of the software development lifecycle (Claude Code or similar)
Willingness to work across the stack as needed—from backend services and cloud infrastructure to occasional frontend changes
Strong product mindset, ability to navigate ambiguity, and effective collaboration with designers, product managers, and other engineers
BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

What the job involves

We are seeking a product-focused Software Engineer to join our infrastructure organization, owning core data and AI capabilities that power file management, high-performance data paths, bring-your-own data patterns, and integrations with external systems
Design, build, and operate backend services for generative AI capabilities, including LLM-backed APIs, agents, retrieval and knowledge layers, and connectors to internal and external systems
Build and scale data infrastructure underpinning file management and high-throughput data flows between customer environments, cloud object storage, and compute clusters, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and cost
Work across the stack—from backend services (Python/Java/Go) and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP, containers/Kubernetes) to the occasional UI change—to deliver end-to-end user-facing experiences in collaboration with product, design, and other engineering teams

Our take

Migrating on-premises infrastructure to a hybrid or fully cloud-based setup is a complex process that requires network understanding, resources, and time. Whilst some companies aid in making this switch simpler, the challenges of migrating high-performance computing (HPC) systems to the cloud are significantly more complex and remain unaided.

Rescale provides sets of HPC resources to help customers optimise their applications for maximum performance within hybrid or fully cloud-based infrastructures. This is achieved through the application of full-stack automation to minimise the complexity of migration, fine-tuning the infrastructure to optimise the performance of the specific application.

Various startups are tackling infrastructure migration for small businesses and enterprises to support industry-wide moves to cloud computing. Rescale presents itself as a unique competitor by focusing on aiding companies that require HPC for industries such as engineering, aerospace, and scientific research. Impressive 2025 funding will be used to accelerate the development of Rescale's digital engineering platform, and comes at a time when more companies are investing in technology that quickens their products' time to market.
