- You’ve grown and led backend or data engineering teams before, and you're looking for a new opportunity to scale both the people and the systems under your care
- 2+ years of experience managing backend or infrastructure engineering teams
- 8+ years of hands-on experience building scalable, production-grade backend systems
- Experience owning mission-critical backend services, APIs, and/or data pipelines at scale
- Strong technical instincts, able to guide architecture decisions, make trade-offs, and drive clarity through ambiguity
- Proven track record of coaching and growing engineers at all levels, focusing on long-term growth and team health
- Solid communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and autonomy is expected
- Familiarity with our stack (Python, Django, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, AWS) is a strong plus, but equivalent experience in similar environments is welcome
What the job involves
- Drive the delivery of backend systems and data pipelines that power our visual experiences at scale, including APIs, microservices, ETL flows, and data warehousing infrastructure
- Manage and grow a team of talented backend and data engineers, focusing on mentorship, performance, and long-term career development
- Collaborate closely with product, data, and other engineering leads to align team initiatives with broader company priorities and ensure consistent execution
- Establish and evolve team processes and technical practices to support high-velocity, high-quality software development
- Partner with engineering leadership to define and deliver on the roadmap for backend services and data infrastructure
- Support your team in designing scalable, observable, and maintainable systems, while keeping an eye on tech debt, reliability, and developer experience
- Play a key role in hiring: evaluating candidates, onboarding new team members, and helping grow a diverse and inclusive engineering organization
- Drive cross-functional collaboration, reinforcing company values, and modeling excellence and accountability across the team

Our take
Leap Tools is an AR visualization platform that helps retail customers visualize the products they want to buy within their own homes. Using augmented reality, it purports to increase eCommerce conversion rates by five times and increase web transactions by 10%.
Through its visualization app Roomvo, Leap Tools is able to show what products - mainly homeware and furniture - will look like alongside people's other possessions. The idea is to turn potential customers to real customers because they don't have to rely on their imagination.
This simple solution solves a leading problem in eCommerce at a time when the majority of all shopping journeys begin, if not end, online. Leap Tools made its way onto Deloitte’s Fast 500 and Fast 50 for Canada in 2022, indicating a real interest in the product visualization software.
