Who you are
- Strong alignment with our values. Find our values on our career page if you haven’t read up on them yet
- You are proficient in English (spoken, written, and reading) at a CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5
- Coachable, honest, accountable, and a self-starter
- 5+ years of full-cycle accounting experience with ownership of month-end close processes
- Prior experience in SaaS or high-growth subscription businesses
- Strong technical accounting skills: GAAP knowledge, revenue recognition, balance sheet reconciliations, and accrual accounting
- Advanced Excel proficiency: Comfortable with complex/nested formulas, and building reporting templates
- Experience with QBO, Ramp & Stripe (subscription management, billing and payment processing), or similar tools
- Detail-oriented and organized: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet close deadlines with accuracy
- Collaborative communicator: Work effectively across teams and explain accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders
Desirable
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing it)
- Knowledge of sales tax, VAT, or GST compliance for digital services
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team at Circle. As we scale to $100M+ ARR, we need a detail-oriented accounting professional to strengthen our financial operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
- This is a hands-on accounting role reporting to the Controller. You'll be responsible for managing the monthly close process, overseeing day-to-day accounts payable operations, and supporting accounts receivable functions
- Your work will be critical to maintaining the integrity of our financial records and providing management with reliable monthly financial statements
- This is an opportunity to take ownership of core accounting processes in a fast-growing SaaS business, working closely with cross-functional teams while building scalable accounting operations. As Circle continues to scale, there's significant opportunity to grow into broader accounting responsibilities
- Own the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Manage daily AP operations: invoice processing, vendor payments, expense report reviews, and vendor account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial reports and management reporting packages
- Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for all balance sheet accounts
- Coordinate annual financial audits, including PBC requests, audit workpaper preparation, and serving as primary point of contact for external auditors
- Support tax compliance activities, including preparation of documentation for sales tax, VAT/GST, and income tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
Our take
The influencer market is nearly twice the size it was globally back in 2019. With more creators flocking to the digital space to grow and engage with their followers, cracks in the existing platforms’ relationship to their content creators are showing. Circle is one of a number of content creator platforms rising up to meet the demand for change.
Its community platform allows users to create and engage with their own groups, for a small subscription fee established by the creators. This direct ownership and community engagement is proving something of a silver bullet for companies looking to tempt creators off of incumbent giants like TikTok and Youtube. Companies like Substack, Patreon, and Pico have all seen remarkable success with this strategy, suggesting that Circle’s foray into establishing something similar for a creator hub is playing to an eager market.
The company's ultimate aim is to pull together all creator tools like newsletter publishing, merch sales, and podcasting under a single Circle umbrella. This is ambitious - but Circle is growing alongside the creator economy at an impressive pace. If it can maintain this growth, it will be poised well for future success.
