- Expert in delivering on the strategy of Consumer Insights and Analytics in a customer-centric environment

- Strong past experience leading teams in an agile environment
- Hands-on experience with market analyses to ensure best-in-class consumer insights data strategy
- Past experience educating, evangelizing, and guiding on data-related initiatives
- Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to turn complex data development efforts into easy to understand business narratives
- Experience enabling consumer-centric metrics to determine success and inform growth opportunities (e.g. customer LTV, marketing funnel effectiveness, return on media spend, A/B testing, audience segmentation, etc.)
- Experience evaluating and leveraging third party tools as well as customer data to develop audience profiles, cohorts, and integrate with marketing and sales tech
- Preferred experience in media and/or with SaaS products
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to analyze large datasets to identify patterns/trends and apply statistical techniques
- Experience with using business intelligence tools (Looker preferred, but not required)
- Ability to present findings to all levels of the organization
- Preferred experience with DS initiatives, testing, and rollout
- Applied experience and proficiency with SQL
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A strong track record of collaborating effectively with colleagues across multiple agile teams
What the job involves
- We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to lead the charge on Consumer Insights and work hand-in-hand with our Data Platform, marketing and revenue teams
- You’ll be utilizing our data platform to develop world-class data products and insights that lead to direct business value
- The Senior PM reports in to our Director of Product for Data and will champion a data-informed culture and derive meaningful and actionable insights from our users’ data
- This person will partner across the organization to determine how to implement strategies as the result of customer behavior, traits, preferences, and motivations
- In this role, you will use your agile skills to develop and manage roadmaps, prepare for and run applicable team ceremonies, and maintain well planned and delivered sprints
- Collaborate with your team as well as partners and stakeholders across the Product, Engineering, and Design department as well as Growth, Editorial, Revenue and Operations to deliver on data objectives and inform actionable product enhancements
- Support incoming data requests with urgency, creative problem solving, and focus
- Be an excellent partner and communicator for your team and stakeholders
Our take
Axios is a digital news site covering business, tech, politics, and media trends, with a focus on smart and efficient coverage. Much like rival comparable sites The Economist and Politico, it’s also diversified its media to include podcasts, newsletters, and a mobile app. Whilst it remains a major national and international news outlet, it’s also pursuing a new avenue to help shore up its position: local news.
Local news outlets have been in sharp decline over recent years: it’s too costly, with too little revenue. Axios’ plan is to opt instead for local newsletters. They’re highly advertiser-friendly, and the model itself is exceptionally scalable. So Axios may succeed where traditional efforts by other outlets like The Huffington Post (and countless local outfits) have failed.
Axios was previously held up as an exception to the mergers and acquisitions other news outlets were having to undergo to weather the decline of print media. However, in order to fund the expansion into local news, Axios has been acquired by the global conglomerate (and previous investor in the company) Cox Enterprises. This is good news - Cox Enterprises owns and protects local newspapers in Ohio, and looks set to be a hands-off and values-aligned new Axios owner.
