Who you are
- HR experience as a People Partner (HR Business Partner) and/or HR Generalist across various industries and scales, or progressively senior roles in the People function with a proven ability to craft and deliver strategic plans
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen with the ability to align People initiatives with business objectives, translating strategy into actionable plans
- Strong relationship management and executive presence with proven ability to influence and coach leaders, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly and concisely conveying information to employees at all levels
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, demonstrating urgency and adaptability to changing business needs
- Significant experience with workforce analytics, using data and reporting to drive strategic decisions
- Excellent change management skills with a proven track record of developing and leading organizational change initiatives that deliver measurable business results
- Demonstrated agility and ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced, and dynamic environments
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle issues ethically and with integrity
What the job involves
- As a People Partner, you will drive people strategies and solutions for a designated organization or subset of teams within Gusto
- In this role, you will excel in dynamic and challenging environments, applying your passion for developing and refining processes and practices
- You will be skilled at influencing and mentoring others, and adept at building strong relationships with leaders and employees
- Recognized as an HR thought leader, you will balance the need to be a strategic business partner with a hands-on approach
- Positions are available across Revenue, Customer Experience, and Engineering teams
- Lead the organization you support to achieve its People objectives, including attracting, hiring and onboarding great talent, developing and retaining Gusties, and achieving our goals around representation and inclusion
- Influence business and talent initiatives that support our short and long-term business goals, including driving practices that enable high performance and operational excellence
- Initiate and maintain effective communications with leadership and employees; provide coaching and guidance on matters related to performance management, offer feedback on style and behaviors to improve employee productivity and engagement
- Engage in strategic workforce planning by assessing organizational capabilities; identify competency and talent gaps, ensure development of people resources; and introduce succession planning
- Build strong partnerships across the People team roles and functions (Invite, Talent Development, Compensation and Benefits) as well as operate as part of a larger People Partner team to create a consistent Gustie experience
- Identify and translate current and future business needs into a comprehensive People/Talent Plan
- Provide organizational development support through interventions such as organization design, development solutions, leadership coaching, and proactive change management
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 400,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. And in 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that has seen it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to expand its platform, most recently partnering with Parafin to launch a payroll line of credit for small businesses. With a growing suite of services and a clear focus on supporting small businesses through changing economic conditions, Gusto looks set to sustain its momentum and further strengthen its position in the HR and payroll technology market.
