Who you are
- Minimum of 7-8 years of experience
- Lead hands-on the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly scalable, high-quality backend APIs, services, and the most complex features of the data platform.Significant experience designing APIs for use in web application development (synchronous vs asynchronous response patterns, caching strategies, graphql, etc)
- Significant experience optimizing data retrieval processes supporting API output, as above, ideally within a low query volume / high data volume environment
- Demonstrably deep experience with Python, GraphQL
- Demonstrably deep experience with relevant ‘big data’ processing either via Spark or through a modern MPP database like Snowflake, ideally with experience in both
- Experience with separate caching/cache invalidation strategies, particularly tiered strategies for highly variable unit volumes of data
- Experience with multiple relevant data storage platforms and the ability to understand the benefits and drawbacks of each for specific types of read patterns (‘data lakes’ like S3/Hive-based systems, Iceberg, RDBMS, MPP platforms, KV/doc stores, etc)
- Understand and design for non-functional concerns such as performance, cost optimization, maintainability, and developer experience
- Strong communication with engineers, product managers, and salespeople

- As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform team, you will help lead the development of Komodo Health’s platform-enabled workflow tools
- The Komodo platform powers all of Komodo’s current and future workflow analytical applications and enables 3rd party builders to integrate with, extend, customize, or build on the platform
- Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, you will be solving complex data challenges while designing and implementing data processing and transformation at a scale that powers state-of-the-art interactive product experiences
- You will enable smarter, more innovative uses of healthcare data by building robust data pipelines and implementing data best practices. This position has potential to become engineering manager
- Partnering with Engineering team members, Product Managers, and customer-facing teams to understand complex health data use cases and business logic
- Being curious about our data
- Building foundational pieces of our data platform architecture, pipelines, analytics, and services underlying our platform
- Designing and developing reliable data pipelines that transform data at scale, orchestrated jobs via Airflow/Temporal, using SQL and Python in Snowflake
- Contributing to python packages in Github and APIs, using current best practices
- Ensure non-functional requirements are met, such as around developer experience and maintainability
- Managed technical dependencies between different microservices to ensure smooth operations
- Set a high technical standard overall and be a mentoring resource for others on the team and in the larger organization

- Expanded or enhanced the Platform data integration APIs
- Designed and optimized caching strategies (including, perhaps, inclusion of new data storage mediums/platforms) for processing cohort outputs and running analytics
- Recommended and implemented additional pre-calculation and caching strategies as needed to ensure that SLAs are met
- Promoted API versioning best practices and open API standards in development
- Leveraged relevant AWS services (API gateway, lambdas, among others), updating as needed to take advantage of new beneficial features in support of the API
- Partnered with product managers to understand the variety of internal and external analytic specification needs across a diverse set of use cases

The service helps providers, pharmaceutical companies, and scientists identify opportunities for intervention and care improvements. It also helps them to analyze how products are performing in the market, identify at-risk patient groups, study the effectiveness of treatments, and detect patterns in drug and patient behavior.
Komodo Health’s comprehensive platform helps customers to better understand health and it is challenging the fragmentation of healthcare that contributes to inconsistent, unsatisfying results for both patients and providers. It has used its considerable amount of funding to focus on accelerating growth through further innovation and development of its enterprise technology platform, application suite and core data assets.
Komodo Health made cuts to its core team at the end 2022 as part of a restructuring following a large equity funding round. This is very likely to be part of a push for profitability as it gears up for an IPO. With its business strategy realigned, it is resuming hiring in all areas to continue to develop its product and grow its market share.
