Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with previous people management experience, ideally within high-growth environmentsTechnical depth in web engineering with familiarity in technologies relevant to SlideShare’s stack
- Strong track record of building and upleveling engineering teams, establishing sustainable development practices, and delivering on roadmap goals
- Ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term strategic thinking, navigating both daily challenges and big-picture goals
- Proven commitment to mentorship, team growth, and career development for individual contributors
- Experience with React, Ruby, and/or GraphQL is a plus
What the job involves
- As the Engineering Manager of SlideShare, you’ll lead a talented team with an entrepreneurial spirit, guiding them to take on new, high-impact challenges
- You'll help foster and maintain the scrappiness that has driven SlideShare's success, while bringing expertise and process to enable scalable, sustainable growth
- In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping the team’s technical strategy, balancing the need for fast-paced execution with a commitment to long-term excellence and quality
- Thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy working on teams that are evolving from a startup mindset
- Have a proven ability to lead with both hands-on work and a vision for growth, guiding a lean team to achieve significant improvements in product delivery and stability
- Enjoy partnering with product and design to creatively solve for business needs, and you actively align engineering output with company objectives
- Partner with GenAI, ML, and Infrastructure teams, as well as other engineering disciplines, to deliver new experiences for SlideShare users

Our take
The world's biggest site for social reading and publishing, Scribd's website has over 250 million unique visitors each month and a vast content library, consisting of over 200 million audiobooks, magazines, ebooks and newspapers as well as media created by the Scribd community.
While Scribd is the largest social reading site, it is not alone in offering this kind of media. It competes against some major players, the largest of which are Amazon's Kindle and Audible offerings, but also includes the likes of BookMate and the non-profit Internet Archive. Where it stands aside is in its feature-rich reader and the sheer diversity of its library, which, thanks to partnerships with several major publishers, features numerous popular titles as well as a range of independent creators.
Further differentiating it from competitors, the company taken a firm stand on social issues, in particular the recent wave of book bannings taking place across the United States. By making the banned titles freely available it hopes to do its part in preserving literary freedom. With this tendency showing no signs of slowing down, Scribd's intervention in this area could prove to be important.
