Role
Who you are
- BS, MS or PhD in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 6+ years of experience leading web application development at scale
- Experience building leading, and architecting large systems at enterprise
- Strong programming and data engineering in one or more backend server languages (Java/Python/Ruby/Go/TypeScript/etc.)
- Experience with web development best practices such as container, docker, continuous integration and continuous deployment
- Proficiency with RDBMS such as MySQL/PostgreSQL
- Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to take a thoughtful, pragmatic, and efficient approach to problem-solving
- A track record of leading engineering project teams and working with cross-functional partners to deliver technical solutions that achieve team and organizational goals
- Passion to up-level yourself and those around you through curiosity, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment
- Some experience with modern frontend stacks. Experience with React.js/Next.js is preferred
Desirable
- Experience using TypeScript on the backend is preferred
- Experience with JavaScrip backend frameworks such as Express/Node.js/Nest.js is preferred
- Experience with data pipeline and data driven analytics
- Experience with any of these DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, Authorization, Authentication, Search Infrastructure (Elastic Search)
- Experience with deploying or leveraging ML model and LLM to power business. Having decent understanding of ML essentials and having a background to work and speak the same language with data scientists
- Experience with state-of-the-art LLMs techniques, models and vendors
- Experience with LLM and other related frameworks like Langchain, LLamaIndex
- Strong experience with popular AI/ML libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)

- Be a technical leader and owner of Newfront’s working through ambiguity, concept validation and implementing a best-in-class solution
- Identify areas of improvement and drive foundation opportunities on the web and backend
- Collaborate with cross-functional design, product, and data science teams to design and deliver high-quality products and influence outcomes
- Follow data-driven approaches to iterate product features
- Help build out the team and cultivate innovation and growth by driving cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams
- Mentor junior engineers with best practices and be a player/coach of our high-performance team to ensure code quality, commitment to craft and operational excellence

Newfront is an insurance broker offering tech-driven risk management and insurance cover for businesses. It claims to provide fairer premiums using rich datasets to assess risk rather than the more traditional method of risk categories. The insurance industry has been slow to embrace digital innovation, but Newfront is a new insurtech firms aiming to transform the industry.
Spike Lipkin, CEO, was part of the original team at Opendoor and helped guide the start-up to a $3B valuation. At Opendoor, Lipkin experienced first-hand the difficulty of securing business insurance and recognized that the industry would greatly benefit from the use of AI. Newfront's ethos is customer-focused, and it aims to provide a fairer, more accessible experience for businesses.
Newfront merged with ABD Insurance, a B2B insurance provider focusing on employee benefits and financial services programs. Together, they are working to write $2B in premiums annually and occupy a more significant slice of the business insurance market. Funding is being invested into both US expansion and building the modern platform for clients, insurance professionals, and trading partners.
