Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Foundational experience with real-time or embedded systems, microcontroller or microprocessor-based development
- Proficiency in C or C++ and Rust
- Familiarity with FPGA fundamentals and an eagerness to develop FPGA-based solutions for real-time applications
- Familiarity with reading schematics and data sheets for components
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and software for low-latency applications
- Knowledge of different IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems
- Passion for the space industry
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with little input on requirements or management oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Exposure to Rust programming for performance-sensitive systems
- Experience developing and/or producing embedded software for space applications
- Basic experience with System Verilog and/or FPGA development for performance-critical applications
- Knowledge of hardware/software co-design and real-time performance tuning
- Familiarity with simulation tools and performance profilers
- Interest in real-time acceleration techniques, such as DMA, optimized memory access, or hardware offloading
What the job involves
- As part of our Embedded Flight Software team, you will work on real-time, performance-critical software for spacecraft systems, covering development from early concepts through final deployment
- His role offers hands-on experience in developing and optimizing embedded and flight software, accelerating key functions on space hardware, and learning to meet stringent real-time performance needs
- You will gain experience at every phase of the spacecraft program including design, analysis, manufacturing, test, and flight

- Develop, implement, and test real-time embedded software for spacecraft systems
- Perform requirements review and verification analysis, test plan and coverage analysis, and develop inputs to review documentation
- Assist with system integration, testing, and flight software deployment
- Optimize embedded software for timing, efficiency, and performance on specialized hardware
- Hands on support for component, system, and spacecraft integration of electronics
- Collaborate with other mechanical, thermal, electrical, firmware, and software engineers to ensure the best product is delivered
- Drive improvements to minimize cost and schedule while maximizing reliability and capability
Our take
True Anomaly is a space tech startup composed of former military operators and engineers. The Colorado-based company is focused on building spacecraft and software solutions designed to secure U.S. commercial and military interests in space. It has already developed a fully-integrated platform with seamless satellite, navigation, and data-capture technologies that provide security and training for the quickly evolving space market.
Founded in 2022, True Anomaly has already designed its first spacecraft, the Jackal Autonomous Orbital Vehicle, which can be used to train operators on the ground or as intelligence-gathering tools against adversarial spacecraft. Alongside this, the startup has built a 35,000-square-foot facility in Denver to manufacture the Jackals and hired a team of close to 60 people.
With impressive capital gained at the end of 2023, the company validated the Jackal's technical and operational capabilities and made the necessary investments to scale production. Despite this healthy injection of funding, it still had to streamline staff in spring 2024, but is looking leaner and more agile for it, planning to partner with Firefly Aerospace to launch The Jackal in 2025.
