Who you are
- BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 5+ years of HR experience (i.e. HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, Employee Relations Associate)
- Workday and Paycom experience is a plus
- Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions is a plus
- Experience working in a fast paced environment, with the ability to quickly move between tasks and change focus areas to meet business needs

What the job involves
- As the HR Business Partner (HRBP), you will guide Compass’ people strategy to support the business strategy.
- You will play a critical role in providing support and coaching to both our business leaders and employee base.
- You will serve as the subject matter expert in people decision frameworks, understanding the overall goals of the organization you support and its leadership to shape people policies, procedures, and resources to help reach the desired business outcomes
- Please note that this is a 100% onsite position in HQ (Union Square)
- You will be instrumental in building our growing company and HR function, championing our values and ensuring that Compass is a great place to come to work everyday
- Be a strategic and trusted advisor to the business that you support, and serve as a key member of the business leadership team
- Provide leadership with guidance and best practices to support change management
- You will serve as a thought partner and advisor to leaders as they navigate difficult employee issues, helping to mitigate risk, and ensuring a collaborative employee/employer experience
- You will serve as a bridge between the business and internal stakeholders (Legal, Payroll, FP&A)
- Roll out programs and processes including performance management, annual performance reviews, compensation planning, talent reviews, succession planning, employee engagement and retention, key employee metrics, and more
- Coach employees to assist them in their development, career planning and resolving challenges
- Build compliance into all we do, including maintaining in depth knowledge of company policy and processes and legal requirements
- Help drive and embed diversity practices into all that we do
Our take
Compass uses an AI-driven platform to smooth out and speed up the process of buying, selling, or renting property. It functions much like a traditional broker, but employs tech to reduce the time, uncertainty, cost and friction of transactions for buyers, sellers & agents.
It's disrupting a sector so far largely averse to tech innovation, allowing users to close deals in less time than the industry average of 30-45 days. Compass is now the largest independent real estate brokerage in the USA, with over 29,000 agents nationwide.
Despite being a leading residential brokerage and competing well, Compass has remained unprofitable. While the company is replanning its cost structure to be profitable over the next year, it announced its third round of payoffs in early January 2023. Its profit-generating plans include expanding into mortgages, escrow & title services.
