What the job involves
- WHOOP is hiring a Hardware Test Engineer (Manufacturing) to develop the automated test solutions that ensure every WHOOP device meets the highest standards of quality and reliability
- You will drive manufacturing test strategy from early product development through mass production, developing test methodologies, electrical test systems, and automated test software that are deployed on manufacturing lines around the world
- Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, and the Manufacturing Platform Software team, you'll build scalable production test solutions that enable rapid product launches and world-class manufacturing quality
- Develop and implement manufacturing test solutions for products and subsystems, contributing to Design for Test (DFT) efforts throughout the product development lifecycle
- Develop and validate test methodologies to achieve appropriate coverage, accuracy, repeatability, and robustness for production use
- Design, build, and validate automated test equipment (ATE), electrical test systems, instrumentation, and control systems, and partner on the development of production test fixtures
- Develop automated test software in Python to control instrumentation and validate electrical, functional, RF, and sensor performance in manufacturing
- Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, and Mechanical Engineering teams to implement test requirements, improve test coverage, reduce cycle time, and increase manufacturing yield
- Support factory bring-up and production activities with manufacturing partners, including fixture qualification, calibration, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of deployed test systems

Our take
WHOOP develops wearable health-tracking devices designed to help athletes optimise their performance. Its technology continuously monitors recovery, sleep, and training hours to fine-tune both individual and team performance. Unlike competitors that primarily track exercise data, WHOOP's holistic approach includes metrics like heart rate variability, which can influence more effective and healthier exercise routines.
By focusing on a subscription model that includes the cost of the physical device, WHOOP differentiates itself from competitors that charge a higher one-time fee for their products. This model provides ongoing value and encourages users to stay engaged with their health data.
WHOOP's comprehensive monitoring of strain and recovery has given it a competitive edge, even as other brands like Fitbit have incorporated similar features. Beyond sports performance, WHOOP has conducted extensive research on predicting premature births, aiming to integrate these findings into its app. This commitment to broader health applications demonstrates WHOOP's dedication to advancing wearable health technology.
