Role
Who you are
- Proven experience as a Product Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centred design solutions
- Proficiency in design and prototyping in Figma
- Experience with user research methods and the ability to collaborate with researchers to translate insights into actionable designs
- A solid understanding of the end-to-end product design work, including but not limited to, user experience design, visual design, and accessibility principles
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in fintech or a related industry is a plus but not required
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is preferred
What the job involves
- We are seeking a passionate Product Designer to join our expanding design team in London, UK
- You will report to the Head of Design and play a vital role in helping Plum develop intuitive, user-centred financial products
- As a member of one of our squads, you will be responsible for the design output of that team
- You will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members and other designers to ensure that every aspect of the product aligns with user needs, business objectives, and Plum’s mission to promote financial well-being
- Understand User Needs: The ability to inspire creative thinking by collaborating with researchers to identify unmet needs
- Frame Challenges: The ability to pinpoint key driving questions that motivate you and your team to seek innovative AI-driven solutions
- Explore Problems: The ability to formulate hypotheses and employ both divergent and convergent thinking to analyse and synthesise various possibilities
- Collaborate and Innovate: The ability to partner with your AI squad and your design teams to explore and implement cutting-edge applications of conversational AI
- Design Conversational Experiences: The ability to create intuitive flows and interaction patterns, ensuring they are empathetic, engaging, and aligned with Plum’s brand
- Make Possibilities Tangible: The ability to "build to think," creating conversational prototypes to experiment with and test your hypotheses
- Reflect and Learn: The ability to gather feedback from experiments to learn and refine conversational experiences continuously
- Create Stories: The ability to craft narratives that clearly explain design decisions and facilitate collaboration with the team and stakeholders

Consumers are not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, who have proven slow to react to their needs and demands. Plum is one of the increasing number of money management alternatives, offering a platform for users to automate their investments and savings.
The development of fintech in the UK has made the space incredibly competitive, with other companies such as Cleo and Emma trying to solve similar problems. That said, Plum has certainly found its place, with over a million users having downloaded the app. It was also voted Best Personal Finance App at the 2023 British Bank Awards, a testament to its popularity.
After strong performance leading to more than 2 million users across 10 European markets, Plum secured Series B funding which will be used to strengthen its UK product offering. Plum has ambitious plans for the rest of Europe too, having recently launched ETFs for EU customers and partnered up with Eurobank company. Other developments on the platform include the addition of "Watchlists" and "Price Alerts", two features that aim to further empower people by delivering smart notifications and portfolio control.
