Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of Data Science management with a team of >3
- 5+ years of modeling/data science experience overall
- 2+ years of experience at a consumer product company
- Deep technical expertise in SQL and Python, with experience in analytics and machine learning tools (dbt, Airflow, Spark, MLflow, etc.)
- Experience applying predictive modeling to credit risk assessment, churn prediction, loss and revenue forecasting is beneficial
- A Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or Applied Mathematics) is strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to distill complex analysis into actionable insights for commercial and executive stakeholders
- A passion for developing talent and building a high-impact culture rooted in accountability, data-driven decisions, and business outcomes
What the job involves
- At Brigit, our Data Science team has been dramatically scaling their impact
- We’re aiming to integrate new models across several product domains over the next year and we continue to iterate and optimize in the areas of credit risk and payments where we already have models deployed
- Doing this will require our team to grow, but also will require a more concerted effort in planning and integrating with product teams, understanding their roadmap, and exploring projects that make sense in the context of this
- To support this growth, we’d like to hire a motivated Director of Data Science to grow and lead this team to its maximum potential
- Managing and growing a team of (currently 4) data scientists focused on modeling key business problems
- Mentoring and guiding team members as they build out quantitative models in python using industry standard techniques
- Evangelizing the data science team’s capabilities and integrating with product, engineering and operation teams in order to build a roadmap and backlog of data science solutions with business impact
- Running quarterly planning with the engagement of business stakeholders to ensure that the team is running in the right direction
- Working closely with our Modeling Engineering team (currently 1) to optimize and improve our infrastructure for model research, development and deployment
Our take
Brigit is an algorithm-based personal finance app that helps underserved financial customers maintain financial health. It offers a raft of protective services including cash bumps to fend off overdraft charges, budgeting tools, and interest-free emergency loans.
In spite of this financially-oriented spread, Brigit has no intention of expanding into neo-banking. This is smart, as it allows the company to focus on a broad range of banner services without stepping into the far more competitive digital banking sector. Brigit has successfully united these disparate features under a strong customer-forward and socially-impactful identity, which gives the company the freedom to expand its services in response to new banking trends without diluting its brand.
It means, too, that Brigit can complement new and legacy banking solutions, instead of competing for space. This careful positioning should shore Brigit up in a sector undergoing continual and swift change.
