Role
Who you are
- Minimum of 3 + years of demonstrated experience in a People Operations support role, preferably in a start-up environment and supporting a global workforce
- HR/People Operations certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) a plus
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment with the agility and enthusiasm to adapt quickly, tackle diverse challenges, and contribute effectively to a high-energy team
- Proficiency in HR tech stack, preferably Rippling HRIS & Lattice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well across all levels and teams of the organization
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Understanding of labor laws, HR policies, and best practices in the US; Canada LATAM a plus
- Ability to identify opportunities and find creative solutions for People Operations processes and people issues
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective at managing deadlines, ensuring a smooth execution of day-to-day operations
What the job involves
- The People Operations Specialist will support the greater People Operations team, optimizing processes that support Owner’s rapid growth and lays the foundation for the future
- This position will closely collaborate with teams across the business to implement best practices and processes for People Operations to drive operational excellence and team member experience across the entire lifecycle - from onboarding to offboarding

- Employee Onboarding & Offboarding: Support the new hire onboarding process, partnering with our Talent team and cross functional leaders, to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new team members. Support team member offboarding ensuring compliance across geos and jurisdictions
- Team Member Engagement: Drive employee engagement & recognition initiatives; champion maintaining a positive organizational culture through communication and company programs
- Data Management: Maintain and update employee records in the company’s HRIS, ensuring all data is accurate, confidential, and compliant. Assist with audits and reporting to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws
- Operational Execution: Support the development and implementation of People Ops policies, processes and programs, ensuring adoption and compliance
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support and other related responsibilities as assigned. Support team members through outreach of general inquiries

Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 1,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2024 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
